When Baatin (Missin U…), the new mixtape leak from Jack Splash, starts off with a strange, raspy voice singing “I’m missing you,” it may leave you wondering what type of song this is, but as Splash starts to rap, you realize the weirdness is intentional. Comparing himself to Kid Cudi and Kanye West, he outlines his own journey through the rap world and pays homage to the work of former Slim Village member Baatin, who passed away in August. On the track Splash is emotional, spitting likes like, “If love is insane you can call me crazy,” and by the end of Missin U we’ve come full circle with the same voice echoing, “I’m missing you.” Just as impressive is the ending of the song, which is a near minute-long instrumental showcasing Splash’s skills as a budding producer. Missin U is the first leak off the DJ Skee and The Smoking Section-presented Heir To The Throne (Vol. 1) Mixtape, out later this month.

Flashback was a nice song. this one aint that bad either. 3.5 stars but i wudnt put it on ma mp3 so im rounding down. nice one tho! |

A MUCH different sound from Splash, whose first two Booth features were a little more left of center. I cannot complain, though, as I am diggin everything about this record. The message is appreciated and the production work is sick.

Never heard of him before...and he is signed? I think many more MC's and do better job with a better beat...and believe the only reason he is comparing himself to Cudi and Kanye is because he is signed...I will listen to more of his tracks and to the upcoming mixtape to see if he is really up there.

Regular readers know I'm a fan of anyone who brings the originality, and on that tip alone I have to give it up to Splash. I'm sure everyone's going to focus on the lyrics, but it's the production that hit me. That's some off-beat, off-kilter ish. When the claps hit on the second verse, that's some crazy stuff.

Damn! I didn't knew he could get down on mic like this! Heartfelt lyrics with a polished flow, and production is just a remarkable balance between creativity and accessibility, them switch-ups are crazy! Nice ending to a great track.

Beat makes this song, crazy good. Not a big fan of this guys flow. I give him props because you can hear the passion in his voice but he's to choppy for me.
