J the Slast Booth feature found the underground emcee ready to party till the sun burned out and the angels fell from the sky. While the concept made for one fresh record, the Boston native knows as well as anyone that living it up as the world falls to pieces isn’t the greatest plan – if we want future generations to have something other than a post-apocalyptic wasteland to look forward to, we’re gonna have to do our part to create positive Change. On the first official leak off his latest street album, (making its world premiere right here in the Booth!), Jake asks the obvious question: with the myriad problems that plague the globe, is it really possible to set things right? To quote guest singer (and co-producer, with Snipe Beats) FrancoIt ain’t gonna be easy.” Backed by the beatsmiths’ uniquely catchy hip-hop-meets-folk-meets Smells Like Teen Spirit boardwork, the headliner encourages us to make the world a better place one day at a time, even if it’s just within the confines of our own homes. Digging this insightful track? Be sure to check back on March 9, when J the S drops his new, DJBooth/2DopeBoyz-presented mixtape, Wish You Were Here.

the beat aint that well put it together...but can't hate cause he speaking bout something real...his singing flow need some work...bad engineering this song could have been better but i can't hear his vocals and that turns me off...and it could have been a better hook...

Love the alt-rock influence here. Enjoyable head-phone music with an emcee who speaks from the heart and believes in his conviction.

If you are still on the fence after this listen, I highly suggest you download Jake's forthcoming Booth-sponsored project in a few weeks. That will change your mind, I promise.

I give it 4 stars for several reasons:
1. The message is there. Too many emcees are rapping about inconsequential crap that doesn't teach our youth to go any way but down.
2. The singing flow may need some work, but it's raw and that's missing from tracks these days. It's real. There could be more passion there.
3. Emcees shouldn't rely on beats, they should be supplemental. If not, the beat is what makes a hot track and the flow over it doesn't mean a thing and too many emcees get away with that these days. This beat may be simple, and granted more depth would kick it up, but that doesn't mean it isn't hot. There's nothing worse than a track that loses the raw passion because of overproduction.

My only critique is that J the S needs to come out more on this track. The hook dominated a little too much. But all that said, I like what I hear and I will be sure to pass it on.

I hear ya @DJ Rater. I can understand why people ain't liking the hook, but to me it's positives more than outweigh this weakspot.

I love how people complain that we only get same, tired tracks all the time, and then when someone does something different they blast it.

Execution was a little shaky at times, but I've got nothing but props for J the S pushing some boundaries. Keep doing it man.

The main problem I have with this was that the Ten Years After "Sample" is way too recognizable to me. Better than Just Ok though.

The beat is a little thin, but that works for the track. I love the lyrics and the guitar works well with the vibe.
