DJ Booth Exclusive Freestyle

The 56th entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of J-Kwon, a St. Louis heavyweight best known for 2004 hit Tipsy.  On his brand new, previously-unreleased Mr. Fly freestyle, the emcee/songwriter/label owner flows over a Chris Rich-produced instrumental originally featured on his current single, Fly.  J-Kwon is currently preparing for the release of his Hood Hop 2.5 LP (set to drop July 14th via Gracie Productions/EMI), and plans to promote Louie Bounce (I Smacked Nikki) as his next official single.

Look who's BACK! Kwon comes with lots of hot punchlines on this ONE TAKE freestyle. Another fine addition to our series... 56 strong.

Nice punchlines--the "I don't f*ck with Santa" part cracked me up.

Hope to hear more from J-Kwon in the near future!

It was alright, though it isnt anywhere near the best freestyle ive heard in this series.

I'll be honest, I still blast Tispy in the car, it was a seriously dope club track, though I cant see J-Kwon matching that tracks success

Kwon has some nice punchlines. He sounds wit the flow and jokes that hes tryin to sound like Wayne. It worked for me, though, I've always liked the under-aged drinker.

Ha, who doesn't blast that track in the car? Tipsy was one of the biggest club bangers ever.

This is hot, but not the hottest. Still, 56 freestyles in, and I don't find myself disappointed in any of them.

I like that you can tell this is a true free. No offense to all the other emcees who have dropped Booth freestyles, but Kwon goes in off the top. For that, he gets an automatic 4.

Aw, J-Known. Where have you been dude? Sounds like you switched up your flow since the last time I heard your work (circa 2004?). Nevertheless, nice freestyle.

Agree with Juanito_88 he do kinda sound like Weezy on this cut... Its koo. Some good lines here & there, but overall I think it should be in Rotation.

I'm liking his flow and lyrics here and am kinda psyched to hear him on some of his new tracks.

The beat really blows, gots no rhythm, a bunch of random cliche southern rap sounds that barely carry a distinctive pattern

Wow, did not expect to see J-Kwon back around these parts, good to see him smash the "one-hit wonder" label. Digging the track, but I gotta be real, he needs a new headshot. I haven't seen facial hair that sketchy since Paul Pierce.

Where to start...love it. It's a very well controlled piece audio art. From the synthed out strings to the organic percussive element of the occasional "uhhh" ...it banged from beginning to like intergalactic African war drums. Loved J's delivery. He completely ripped this track and while his wordplay wasn't intricate, it was still effective --he could be a hood Steinbeck. So yeah, I'll agree the premise that began the whole joint -- way hotter than lit matches.

Finally an actual Freestyle on the Freestyle channel here on da booth! J-Kwon sounds GREAT on this track actually. I always thought he had the ability to be better than just a one-hit wonder. Hopefully he can keep his flow just like this throughout a new album. Good work!
On a side note: I remember back in 2004 at the tree spotin newark, NJ all the old heads were showing me pictures of J-kwon that they took with him at this club in NYC that he couldn't even drink at because he was so young!
