J. Cole - Who Dat
Artist: J. Cole
Producer: Elite & J. Cole
Album: Untitled
Label: Roc Nation/Columbia
Since being signed to Jay-Z’s new label Roc Nation late last year, J. Cole has been one of the fastest rising hip-hop artists in the game. Loyal fans have likely already heard Cole perform Who Dat live, but today the N. Carolina representer has finally released the official version of his debut album’s lead single. Co-produced by Cole and Elite, who has worked with everyone from Jadakiss to Drag-On, it’s hard to describe this banger without uttering the word wow. The head banging production isn’t too heavy or too soft, but rather a nice mixture that doesn’t take away from Cole’s vocals. As for the Roc Nation signee, what else needs to be said? Cole’s lyricism is absolutely crazy. With punch lines that I’m sure hip-hop heads will be quoting all week, Who Dat gives us a look into who he is as an artist, and what his currently untitled debut album will sound like. Summer needs to get here NOW.

You always have to wonder if these hyped-up emcees on magazine covers will live up to their expectations. In most cases, they won't. In J. Cole's case... is that even a question. 1 second into this record I knew I'd like it. Heck, with that production behind him Cole could have hummed for 3 minutes and it would have worked for me. Bring on the album, I am excited.

J.Cole is about to blow up! The beat on this is sick. Reminds me of Rich Boy's "Boy Looka Here". J.Cole brings a nice flow and verses. I could see the Saints playing this when the season starts.

"Now a n***a hot enough to f**k w/ one of Satan's hoes" - noyce!
This track definitely substantiates his lyricism. I wonder what kind of radio play it will get... |

Is there really a reason to swear that much...i mean, i dont really care, but you could substitute words in there for all of the swear words you had...i guess i only realized it because of the clean version they released before the dirty...but still, too much swearing
I didnt like it the first time, but i'm feeling it the second...this will not get radio play |

YES, this is exactly what I have been waiting to hear from Cole. Lyrically, he lived up to my expectations as to what I knew he was capable of. Not only that, the production matched up with his flow flawlessly.
Right off the bat, the hook hits you, and while it is not the most creative thing I have heard from Cole, it really doesn't take anything away from the track. Production was solid, however, the only thing that annoyed me as the track went on was the "hey hey" in the background. Other than that, production was great. Cole's third and final verse was IMO the best. I'm glad Cole was able to meet up with my expectations and live up to the standards that so many people have set forth for him. |

"I guess its something like your girl, it ain't came yet." Damn! Cole's punchlines are insane. If you haven't heard yet, go get his mixtapes. The Warm Up is better than every album released in '09. When J. Cole drops, everyone will rethink their top 10

Not much to say about this one. Production is just sick and bars are nice, even if I was expecting a little bit more from Cole's first single. In my opinion, still not as good as "Lights Please".

J. Cole is the best rapper out without an album. This single is FIRE. Skill wise he is better than Drake and he has a great team with him, J. Cole, Wale, Melanie Fiona Roc Nation is gonna hold it down 4 years Billionaire Hov is on a pace 2 make it.

I have been waiting for J. Cole to come through and put down something everyone can get in to. This is close and might do the job but we will have to wait and see.
Either way this is a great song. Cole flows smoothly over the beat and handles it like a pro. Every time he drops something new I get excited. Can't wait to see what he has up next. |

Really hate it when people say that Cole is about to blow up like Drake did. They're on two totally different levels. Not that im hating on Drake I just prefer Cole any day. That being said, this rocks!

I am not a huge Cole fan. I never was. But that could change. I like this, and it will most-likely grow on me. His lyrics are crazy. It's just the production and the hook here that I don't really like. But still an above average track.

@DJ Chi Mez: I agree there is no comparison between Drake and Cole. Disney Drake is good at what he does but Cole is a man in his own dimension.
Was that Andre 3000? The beat is pretty slick. Perfect climate for Hollywood Cole to deliver his super fresh lyrics. He owns this beat. "I was plotting this moment back when ya'll was riding spinners" Not on the J. Cole bandwagon yet but he is undeniably talented delivering lines that hit you quick and others that seep into your mental. Going from rapping to singing and back to rapping without missing a beat. Who Dat def holds no light but a flame to the game. |

I personally feel J. Cole was not the man for the job for the production being offered here. I see somebody like K. Sparks completely dominating this track. J. Cole did a good job with his lyrical talents, i just think he needs a different kind of production value to back him up properly.

*Side Note*
@ajsdhjk How sad that we have to dumb ass comments from people like this trying to get people to buy cheap shit. Post on youtube, that's what it for, don't start @*#$! over this site. ------ Anyways, back to my man, J Cole, always impressing me track after track, like I said before he is my favorite up and coming artist next to K. Sparks, but sad to say, K. Sparks will probably never see the light of fame he deserves, kinda like Phonte from LB. On the other hand, J Cole is going to blow up after he drops an album. I look forward to everything he puts out and spits on. Great job man. ------- And LOL at Pauly D and the Baskin Robbins add. Psshhh... People don't sell their soul to devil, they just sell it dumb shit. |

J.Cole is coming up for sure if he hasn't already. I want to see him and Drake do a track together or maybe I want Drake on a remix to this!
I like the production but it excels the most when the hook comes into play...and the hook is nice too. Cole has some nice rhymes and he can just flat out rap. I hope he does big things this year! "Who Dat"? J.Cole is Dat!!! |

The tracks a banger, no doubt about it. Cole's lyrics & flow are dope and the production is good. To be honest though, I just cant see this blowing up on radio. He's going to have to make something more radio freindly if he expects to release his album.

It was brave for Cole to lead off his debut album with such an understated beat, it speaks to his confidence in his rhyme abilities. And that confidence is well deserved. Obviously there will be more hype around Drake's album, but Cole's might just be better. We'll find out soon(ish).

At First, I Absolutely Refused To Listen J. Cole Purely Because People Continued To Say He Was Better Than Drake. But With This Song My Views Are Beggining To Tip, Drizzy Needs To Come Out With Soething Hot, Immediatly.

I love the trumpet part in the beginning. His flow reminds me of Kanye West, yet he adds his own style to it. The only negative part about the song is that he's affiliated with Jay-Z, a known Satan worshipper. I look forward to hearing more from him.

Features a spastic drum-line that makes for a perfect backdrop to showcase J.Cole's sharp delivery and some serious verbal calisthenics.
And judging by some of the comments on here, song achieves what the duo are going for; got your attention now, huh? |

This is cool lyrically and production wise, but it wont be the song that elevates cole to the next level. As much as i like his music, i don't think he's gonna blow up like drake because he is missing that "it" factor that makes one stand out in a crowd. I'll be listening, but I just everyone else is too.
