J. Cole - Blow Up
Artist: J. Cole
Producer: J. Cole
Album: Untitled Debut
Label: Roc Nation/Columbia
J.Cole is simply on fire right now. Already co-signed/actually signed by Jay-Z, coasting with his first single Who Dat on the charts, and all before his first album has even dropped, Cole certainly seems like the next big thing in hip-hop. As the growing fan base of the Fayetteville emcee anxiously awaits his as-yet untitled album (hopefully arriving this fall), Cole has delivered something to pacify the waiting hordes with brand new song Blow Up. Produced by Cole himself, Blow Up is further proof that the young man can not only spit, but he can work the boards just as well. As far as Cole’s lyricism is concerned, in my opinion, he can get a little lazy at times here at times. With lines like, “And Gary Coleman just died…life is short,” the verse doesn’t match the intensity of the hook, and falls short of the killer edge that’d you’d expect from a song with a title like Blow Up. However, the Roc Nation sensation does flow hard, and ultimately this record should only earn him more respect, as should his exclusive video Lollapalooza interview with DJBooth, coming soon.

Detox, what? The most highly-anticipated project in my book is Cole's debut.
(Thinks about giving the song a 4-rating, but decides instead that its worthy of a 5. Though not a classic, its better than a 4. Hopes that makes sense to fellow Booth members). |

Song is CRAZY! i think his production might be more impressive than his vocals in this song. I agree with Dj Z... hands down most anticipated album of the year.

Five Stars. From Cole it's not even a surprise.
The Blow Up is looking like it may be the title of the album (in the vein of The Come Up and The Warm Up) so I wouldn't be surprised if this song is his new single. |

While I'm not the biggest fan of the production, it's still very good. I'm still not all that into J. Cole, only because I don't like his hooks and the production behind his songs. If he can change that then he will have my vote, but as of right now this song is just too repetitive and Kanye's is still my most anticipated project.

J. Cole's fame and recognition has blown up before our eyes. Maybe he could tell those stupid Gucci, Waka, Weezy and Soulja Boy fans who a real MC is.

The man has never had a bad song
I haven't even been listening to him that long, so don't call me a stan...I can just tell that he is way ahead of most, if not all, of the game. Everyday I hope that J. Cole drops a new track or something. I will definitely be buying this album. Its going to be outta control. I honestly believe this will be a classic. I have never felt so sure! And that very last line was some of the nicest sh*t I've heard in awhile. "And be you, that's what it sound Be-You-tiful (beautiful)" |

That production is classic. Lyrics are on point too. I agree Z, most anticipated album since BP3 for me. Hopefully I won't be so underwhelmed.

This is the sound of the future; I don’t think it is a five star song because like The 149th said Cole has made better songs than this.

J. Cole is the most talented, consistent hip hop artist I've heard since Kanye West.
Production is simply amazing; I like how much guitar he brings into his beats, fresh percussion/rhythm and real musical vision (the break in 2nd verse just creates that space for you to enjoy the other instruments even more when they kick back in... and the bridge by the end is just exquisite!). His delivery (both rapping and harmonizing naturally *cough..autotunedrake..cough*) and lyrics are flawless! |

I REPEAT THIS NIGGA IS THE NEXT NAS!!! HIS LYRICISM AND EVEN SWAGGA HAD A BIT OF A JAY-Z FLOW ON THIS TRACK. BUT THAT IS NOT A BAD THING AT ALL! DRAKE NEED TO WATCH HIS BACK CAUSE HE AINT THA KING YET!!! THERE'S VIOLENT RAP WAR FOR THE CROWN GOING DOWN RIGHT NOW. A WAR WE HAVEN'T SEEN SINCE TUPAC AND BIGGIE. NO THERE'S NO BEEF BETWEEN J.COLE AND DRAKE. BUT THEY BOTH ARE THE TWO BEST. BUT I DIGRESS FORM THE POINT. J.COLE'S ALBUM COULD BE THE NEXT ILLMATIC WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!

Not really feeling this one to be honest. The hook is okay, the lyrics are okay. Nothing special. The hook gets annoying. Not my favorite song, by far.

Wow! J Cole is truly amazing. He's the perfect and 'hopefully' the new generation of hip-hop artists that are to arise from this generation of tech users. J Cole truly gives hope to those who agreed with the expression "Hip-hop is dead!"
