The ILLZ - Energy in Motion
Artist: The ILLZ
Producer: Saltillo
Album: Quiz Knows a Mixtape
Label: Unsigned
DJBooth freestyle alum The Illz always makes music that astounds the senses (a.k.a. The Pursuit LP), so it’s no wonder that on his new song Energy in Motion the New Jersey representer has translated kinetic energy into sonic movement. The production, of course done by Illz himself, is a somber, deeply layered journey built around a sample of Saltillo’s Giving In, while on the lyrical side of the equation Illz lays down a lyrical manifesto about artistic integrity and remaining true to self: “I ain’t givin in / all these losers hoping I will never win / say my music’s too different / they just scared cause they lack vision.” Ok, so it’s not exactly a go-to for your next house party, but if you’re in the mood for some deeply contemplative and inspiring hip-hop, you’ll be hard pressed to do better. For Energy in Motion and much more dopeness (like Booth approved track My Window) be sure to download DJ Quiz’ Quiz Knows a Mixtape, available across the internets now.

If you were in Chicago today - watching it rain on and off all day with overcast skies, blustery winds and dropping temps - this would have a perfect mood music accompaniment. This is tried and true headphone music.
I've said it before (and I'll write it again) - The ILLZ puts 110% into everything he does and his passion for his craft is always undeniable. |

The ILLZ is such a creative dude. I love how he has his own sound and doesn't dumb down his music just to please other people. This is some quality sh*t.

I wish Illz would create a different sound for his music, all his tracks are starting to sound the same. I still like him as an artist but I think he needs to change it up a little bit.

Damn it, after puttin this on my headphones, I really got lost in this track. I still think he needs to change up his sound a little. But I give it a Certified-Banger status now.

I gotta agree wit the 149th... The Illz is a good artist but he needs to change it up.He needs to use a more up-tempo type beat.

The ILLZ is the Hip Hop version of Staind. Take it or leave it. Personally, I'll take it. Hip Hop needs more creative/passionate artists like The ILLZ that establish their own sound rather than conforming to what "Mainstream" America deems acceptable.

So it's pretty much unanimous then. The creativity the man displays is like no other, and this is another artistically quality track. Respect.
With that said, it sounds like the people are interested in an up-tempo cut from Illz, and I'd be interested to hear one as well. Until then, I'll be vibing out to this... |

The ILLZ does not have to change at all. his music is incredible. his music is dark, but its so true and heart felt for that very same reason. if he changes that then he changes everything he represents and stands for. his lyrics are so real, and his beats can truly move you. even if they dont get you happy, the music moves you and thats what its supposed to do. he should do what he desires but keep the things that set him apart. great artist

I think I've well expressed my love for ILLZ's brand of passionate moody Hip-Hop (check the mixtape section!), but even I too will like to hear him take a more uplifting sound/approach on remaining strong through despair. Tough job? but I know he is well capable of achieving that.

The Pursuit LP is something real deep it's definatley different with a somber feel to it as the review above says, but when u listen deeper its more than face value of another mixtape on DJ Booth , it is a different gerne. i love this so i gotta give him props on his songs he is a special artist. He's classifed himself as no other artist ive seen before and he does it in a flawless way.

This song was just alright. The best part of the song for me was the beginning of the song when there was some scratching besides that it was nothing that special
