The ILLZ - Dark Side of the Room
Artist: The ILLZ
Producer: Eliot Lipp
Album: The Pursuit LP
Label: Unsigned
During The ILLZ’ relatively brief but bright stay on DJBooth we’ve heard the eclectically talented producer and emcee sample everyone from electro group Passion Pit to folk singer Beth Orton, so I wasn’t even remotely surprised when he dropped off his intense new promo single Dark Side of the Room, a track that (we can only assume) was influenced by Pink Floyd’s classic Dark Side of the Moon album. If you’re looking for a song to play during your first spring barbecue, Dark Side is not that song (unless your guests are into experimental hip-hop). Centered around a hypnotically shaking beat courtesy of Eliot Lipp, Dark Side is the New Jersey native at his most lyrically unflinching and aggressive, resulting in a dopely creative track that’s simply not for the faint of heart. Dark Side of the Room can be found on ILLZ’ DJBooth.net-cosponsored The Pursuit LP and make sure to keep it locked to the hip-hop site with all the latest updates on The ILLZ. That’d be DJBooth for all you slow folks.

The ILLZ, like Theophilus London (another featured artist today), is a take it or leave it artist. His style is unique and far from the 2010 norm. But, that is what makes his work so refreshing. While moody songs (especially those on the somber side) don't do me much good during the everlasting Chicago winter, there is a place for a record like "Dark Side of the Room" under my Beats headphones.
Don't sleep on this talented artist. |

I've got the Beats headphones too haha. And I've already bumped plenty of The Illz in 'em. Definitely a fan of this dude. He consistently makes quality music. This is not his best, but still a decent record.

Yo, the creativity on this one is off the charts. One of the highest compliments I can pay an artist is to say that no one could sound like them if they tried, and The Illz has definitely earned that.
Damn, just realized that might have been overly enthusiastic. Maybe I should point out that I'm reasonably drunk right now and therefore a little more into things than I might be otherwise. Is that true? It's not not true . |

I hope Illz changes up his style on future features because with every track I feel like I've heard it before. After hearing the same song over and over even the best ones seem to become boring.

if youll excuse the over-used pun, illz has definitely, in my eyes, dropped an ill track! once again his lyrics are dope and he flows over this tight beat so smoothly. great song here

Peeps still be sleeping on "Pursuit LP", even if you don’t like it, you won’t find another album like it anytime soon. Check it out!

As Z pointed out, the theme is really dark. I'll take it.
