As much as I like the lighter side of hip-hop, I always enjoy a hard track when it comes into my inbox. So if you’re like me, you’ll definitely appreciate the diamond-hard track that New Jersey representer The ILLZ has put together for your listening pleasure. With new single Cover Me (I’m Going In), the Freestyle Series alum takes a page out of the growing cross-genre trend in hip-hop and teams up with producer Ill Tal (are they perhaps related?) for a dark banger that prominently samples indie rock/electro darlings La Roux and the Skream Remix to their hit record In for the Kill. Lyrically ILLZ, well, goes in, continuing his push for recognition as one of the game’s most innovative and talented artists: “So you can say that I’m the opposite of you, I’m trying to say that you’re the opposite of truth.” If you liked the poundingly poetic vibe on this one, be sure to check out his latest project, Let it Fall: The Pursuit LP 1.5, set to drop sometime in November.

Last summer, Nathan S. and I went to the Jimmy Kimmel Live show in LA. The musical guest was La Roux. Both of us needed a double dose of Advil when we left. Nothing against the strange musical group, but they weren't either of our tastes. Why does this story matter? Well...
La Roux is sampled here on the new ILLZ record and man, oh man, do they now sound dope! Thanks, of course, to ILLZ and producer ILL Tal. One of the more enjoyable, aggressive tracks from the emcee to date.

THE ILLZ pulls through once again. After his video series I was curious to hear if he would/could switch gears from the melodramatic cuts. BANGER. The original is dope too, sorry Z.

After two listens, I think this may be my favorite ILLZ track next to "Moment You Feel Definite Hope." The sample he used was worked in perfectly. Seems like this guy can take any sample and turn it into hip hop gold. November couldn't possibly come soon enough. Keep up the good work ILLZ. 4.5

The dark, rumbling production provides a great backdrop for ILLZ to spit some great lines. The samle is sick, and he came in hard on this one.

Man I knew Z was going to bust out that La Roux story. I love giving him a hard time about them.
Which only makes the fact that I'm playing this track on repeat all the more impressive. Illz has somehow transformed it into an absolute banger of a cut. Damn this is some dopeness.
