Idle Warship - Steady
Producer:
Album: Idle Warship Mixtape
Label: Blacksmith/Element 9/Fontana
One of the Booth’s favorite trends in hip-hop is that of two or more veteran artists teaming up to form a supergroup (Expensive Taste, TGT, and CRS are three of the more popular examples). For this go-round, Talib Kweli has joined forces with Philly R&B singer Res and Toronto rapper Graph Nobel to form Idle Warship, and the group plans to release their debut album, Party Robot, sometime in 2009. Before that, the ‘Ship will release a self-titled mixtape featuring their debut single, Steady. Over a Sunglasses at Night-sampling beat, Talib, Res, and Graph just flow off the tops of their heads, and the result is a certified dancefloor hit. Steady is reminiscent of many of the tracks off Common‘s Universal Mind Control, and should be enjoyed in a similar mindset; while some might prefer deeper lyrics, you can’t help but admire the creative spark that went into the record.

I love the "Sunglasses at Night" sample!
Sidebar: Stunna Glasses At Night" was my favorite song in Fall 2006!. I really dig this. I like Talib's style on these type of joints...with that 80s type party music. I first heard him in still style on "Feel The Bass" by Sa-Ra. I know some heads who are big fans of original Talib will hate...but who cares? Artists, especially rappers nowadays are stepping outside of safe boxes and doing their own thing because they feel like it. 2008 was the new 1985. I hope this vibe in music continues in 2009. |

Meh, this was ok. I'm not really into this type of song- but it was alright- not garbage.

Ehhh....I wouldn't go that far E-Dub. LOL. The Federation's "Stunna Glasses At Night" (featuring E-40) is classic!

Lucky man that Kweli. I'd like to be in a group with two pretty ladies like them. This is a decent one. I like the sample. "I wear my stunna glasses at night so I can... Scrapers with that whistling pipe!!!" That song will forever be classic to me. Shout out to the Federation for that Classic. This is cool right here not like stunna glasses but dope.

i believe this is the 3rd attempt of using this beat on a track that i have heard as of late..regardless,this is by far the best usage of it to date..the original piece belongs to i believe old skewl corey hart, but don't quote me on that there

I think the production is not as good as it could be. The sample takes away from the overall song. They could have been more effective with an original beat.

This ladies have really good voices. The production is kinda simple in my opinion, but I'm feelin it. It's catchy and chillin at the same time! The melody is also simple but pleasant! In rotation
