Maintaining his status as one of hip-hop’s most political figures, legendary rapper/actor Ice Cube made his voice heard at the end of ’07 with the raw and uncut, Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It. Two months later, with no shortage of controversy abound, two more of rap’s political MCs have joined Cube on a remix. Houston OG Scarface takes a sarcastic approach by “confessing” that he ‘set back his race, while Nas takes the opportunity to comment on the album title controversy of his forthcoming release. The wrongly accused often confess to end their interrogation; hopefully Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It (and its remix) will lead to America blaming something other than hip-hop for its problems.
Listen to Ice Cube's Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It (Remix) ft. Scarface & Nas More songs from Ice Cube
The beat on this definitely screams Cali; but I like it a lot. I think Ice Cube's flow is really dated, and it shows on this simple beat. I mean he is decent but not a threat to the game at this point. Scarface does better on this beat and he still surprises me with his skills. This doesn't sound natural to NAS...I hope his album is going to be better than this feature...Its just OK to me.
It must be the night of hot remixes, cause most of the tracks have been good. Unfortunately, the original version of this track never worked for me. Scarface and Nas weren't able to save it either. I used to be a big ice cube fan, but I can't help but feel he's losing his flow and originality.
After earning millions of dollars in the music industry and then going on to do it again in Hollywood, Ice Cube is still one of the most REAL rappers out there. This record shuts all the outrageous critics up and the two veterans who jumped on the remix do their thing. It's R-A-W, R-A-W.
LOL "if I die in Iraq, aint nothin to it gangsta rap make me do it..."
this aint anythin special though. as Kanye said "all these ol rappers don't know where the exit is"
If the original version had Scarface and Ice Cube on it, I would have been more impressed. I actually prefer the Cube-for-three-verses version myself. Regardless, the winner on both versions is producer, Maestro, who lays down a SICK beat.
donjonjon and Weezyaveli: The line doesn't make sense on a literal level but it DOES make sense to the extent that the general public is blaming hip-hop for issues that aren't even music related!
The original was coo. This one is not too much different. Nas sounds fresh on here. I like when he hops on abstract (different than normal for him) features.
I think when I saw this track, I gave it high expectations, with three of some of rap's greatest put on one track. I guess it's not as good as the original, which surprises me, but the message is strong as it ever was. Donjonjon, he's not saying gangsta rap actually made him do it. It's his fight against everyone saying that Hip Hop is the cause of everything negative.
Love the beat, but Ice Cube's dated flows were reason that I only listened to the original one or two times. Now, with Scarface and Nas in the mix, I would consider this track to be hot.
InStead of DJ Blaze giving these rappers credit for making a song like this, and commending there lyrics, he's talking about outdated flows and natrualality to the beat, come on man give these men the credit for standing up to Hip-Hop p.s. a real DJ Could see that men
This song has power. Now, I don't know everything that they are talking about (In fact I probably don't understand it at all) but I feel power in this and that's what hits me. Possibly they are standing up for something...
