Next Tuesday, Ice Cube will release Raw Footage, the newest addition to his impressive and ever-growing catalog. Now, eighteen years since the release of his solo debut, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, Cube might be older, but his rhymes are still tightly woven with thought-provoking sentiment and lyrical ingenuity. This is evidenced by the West Coast native’s newest single, Why Me?, which features accompaniment from singer Musiq Soulchild. Over a mellow, head-nodding beat from Lench Mob in-house producers Teak and Dee (of Hallway Productionz), Cube puts random and unprovoked violence on blast in a dedication to “all the n*ggaz who is dead and don’t know why.” A question is asked, but does anyone have the answer?
At first I was like here we go...another West Coast song that sucks...(lol) but lyrically he got me..which i def respect because beats normally catch the listeners first instead of the lyrics...musiq was a nice addition...loved the meaning behind this song...I know a few people who were murdered this summer and hopefully this song will inspire individuals to put down guns and other weapons and realize life is too precious for anyone to take...
this @*#$! is tight, when is ice cube gon end his string of hot tracks? he is real rap, not like most of these rappers nowadays, he is keeping the old school aspect and new school aspect of hip hop alive...
Ooo, this is some fresh @*#$!. Cube and Musiq collabo is a really good look! The beat is a classic west coast banger and Musiq blesses the chorus. Ice Cube does his thing on here, sounding like some of his old school stuff. he still has the swag and persona to be a hip hop heavyweight. This is a BANGER for sure, Im really glad the west coast is starting to make a strong comeback.
Not quite sure what to think of this at first, perhaps a few more listens would help it grow on me... I will say it is pretty laid back and mellow, which I like.
i dunno...thought Cubes lyrics were weak in places..."im a real live man,u a persona,now im a gonna,call my momma...please!!...other than that ...beat is bumpin'...Musiq is still nice
Good stuff here. I like when rappers get real. I just hope people are able to listen to this track for its lyrical content. This song has positive message.
Smooth & chill track, great chorus! I'm feeling Ice Cube here...it's not in my personal rotation but it could grow on me, and I'm sure many will like it! 2,5
This song touched my heart cuz someone took my dad's life a few years ago. He was bein robbed at a rest stop but that was some peaty @*#$!. So this song will always be with me no matter where i go.
This is a really solid joint. I was surprised for this kinda content from Cube. I'm definitely digging it. The production is soulfully superb and Musiq Soulchild can do no wrong on the hook. This is certainly a classic in my book from Ice Cube . Put this right in there with "Today Was A Good Day" and "Check Yourself".
Ice Cube has VICIOUS lyrics!! I don't know if it's because of his west coast beats all the time or just radioplay but he is slept on by almost everyone (including me)..classic.
