Back in the days of Jheri Curls and Walkmans, Ice Cube was the man. Now, in an age of cornrows and iPods, the slightly older rapper is… well, still the man. Set to release his highly anticipated 9th solo album this summer, titled Raw Footage, Ice Cube is out to show the haters that he hasn’t lost a step. On Do Your Thang, the album’s official radio single, he sounds perfectly at home against PalumboBeats’s production, a typical West Coast, throw-up-your-gang-signs beat. While the former Gangsta Rap pioneer doesn’t pack quite the same edge that he flaunted in the early to mid-90’s, it’s still clear why his prowess on the mic always surpassed his skills on the screen: the old man knows he was born to spit.
PalumboBeats. Ice Cube is wack. This is nothing like who he originally was. This is a stupid attempt to blend in. I could now careless about him. He tries to pick fun at himself for what he's become so he can still keep street cred whether than just accepting he's older and rich from more logical lifestyles. Everybody always worry about other people's opinions who are irrelevant.
Charlie E. couldnt have said it better!, Ice Cube is the MAN!, Beat is KILLER!, Likin Every song Cude is puttin out right now!!, Showin them haters up!, Album is gonna be BANGINN!
Ice Cube responsibly matured over the years, but he still maintains a unbreakable tie to his roots and you gotta respect him for that. Even though this is no where near as mind-blowing as his early work, he still delivers that authentic timeless gangster mentality other rappers attempt to personify.
michaelhannah - I don't think this is him trying to blend in, granted it's different from his previous works, but it still has the definitive Ice Cube feel and message.
I kinda like this right here. Much better than some of his previous joints. I'm still waitin for that one song taht gonna get it for him again. like "you can do it" did 4 him. This song kinda sounds uninspired 2 me. I don't wanna question his hunger for the music , but this ain't what I want form Ice cube
The beat is thumping on this track. The synth brings a club/house feel; in addition, the beat still maintains that west coast flavor. Most people forget that Ice Cube was a pioneer in the Hip-Hop scene--especially for the West Coast genre (NWA anyone). I give him credit for establishing himself as a legit actor and rapper, the only other person that falls in the same category are Will Smith and Ice T( more than one movies folks with a gross of more than $10 million). I have a feeling this album will be SOLID. A 3.5 for this track.
The irony of allowing feedback from members for a Cube joint is that Cube simply don't give a f**k. Haha. Too bad this project was pushed to August... I guess he does care if people purchase the album.
I'll do my thang and rate this. But the beat is typical West Coast. Cube comes at the beat BUT for some reason I'm not feeling the song. I'll throw it into the rotation though. WEST COAST!
It's not my type of song...the background music plus the beat are good, his flow too, but I'd like him to sing...and this doesn't happen, so to me listening only to rap is boring
patty shut up. the only reason you think rap is boring is because you must be def. Open your ears. Ice Cube has been servin up hot tracks for years. He's not slowin. west coast is commin back. the beat goes hard.
michaelhannah Your so wrong, Ice Cube is a rap Icon. This is not as hard as his past work, however this is a hot track. This will get plenty rotation on my staion as well as bum it the club and mixshows.
