i15 - Tooti Frutie
Artist: i15
Producer: Polow Da Don
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: Zone 4/Interscope Records
When we last featured i15, they were going full-speed-ahead toward the release of their debut album. After appearing on Soulja Boy‘s second single, Soulja Girl, and releasing their own buzz single, Lost In Love, they even stopped by to chop it up with our own DJ Z. Fifteen months later, that album remains unreleased, without a solid drop date. Hoping they can turn their luck around, the group has released a brand-new single. Calling all the big-booty, Tootie Frutie ladies to the dance-floor, Das and Castro treat the females to a slow-jam serenade (Flash handles the club shout-outs), accompanied by label boss Polow Da Don‘s midtempo beat (think Ciara‘s Promise or Mario‘s Crying Out For Me). There’s no doubt that Polow’s angling to go full-throttle with i15’s promotion—the only question is, will Interscope follow along?

With the song tooti fruitie i expected a more upbeat production, but ok.
he hook kinda catchy. this song is decent. actually the song itself is just somethin that wud/can get club play. so it can go in rotation. |

I was thinkin it would be a little more upbeat too, and I think the track would have worked better if it was. The sample, which is good, would have sounded less out of place on a faster paced track. I liked the production and vocals by themselves, and I like the idea of usin that sample on a hook, just not together on the same song. The vocals on this aren't bad at all, just not that special either. It was just OK for me...

I expected more from both from i15 AND Polow. Everything sounds so generic and carbon copied.

This song isn't bad. It seemed like it started off a little slow, but it picked up. Decent production from Polow. The hook is catchy. In rotation.

What a let down... is this suppose to pick them up?!? Only towards the end it gets a lil interesting with the bass and the breaks, even the melody gets less monotonous, but this is a bad single choice. What happened to "Lost in Love" olden touch?!?

I really liked "Lost In Love," it was a great summer track and A-plus production. That was really the only good material I heard from them, but this is a big step back. Nothing from the first single that impressed me got me excited here. It's a miss.

Im a fan of Polow's prod. but dis ...
Yes!! a let down in terms of prod. but i think they are most likely to get their next commercial hit wit the same producer ... they jus need to step up their vocals game a lil bit more & keep grindin ... |

I like this.. the productionz hot, upz to Polow for the consistant ear pleezin work. the slight swing beat and eerie synthz. Vocals are decent, room for improvement but still a banger

ahahahahahahahah!!!! i knew it was wack as hell even before listening it!!!!!!!!! I15 are just another boy band with no personality that that rides any latest trend in pop/rnb.... AND THIS IS WHY THIS SUCKS! and polow is running out of creativity lately: this is basically what he composed and made for ciara's "promise"... even the same flangered drums...

yea all these new r&b lack originality and personality, the add none of there own flava to stuff, im feelin the hook but dudes sound the same as all other bands, pretty soon we wont be able to tell one artist from another, the beat deffinetly is wrong for the title, only the hook and towards the end get intresting, like dudes before me pointed out, beat does sound similiar to so many others but hey, does everyone else care about all that? nope, as long as dudes got some vioce, some looks, and follow trends, i feel they will have some success, the question is can the continue to be on top and do their thing, or will they fall behind, and be the hot thing for a month?

I liked the song. The production was great (Yes, it sounds a little like Mario's Crying Out For Me, but the production was great on that track too). The only issue I had with the song was the sample, and it's influence on the track. They took a good slow jam, and tried to turn into a club song. Just leave it as a slow jam, and you have a great song.

This song sounds like everything else out there right now in the R&B music bucket, but I can't blame i15 or Interscope. If you look at the top 10 selling artist from last year you will only find one R&B singer there and that's Beyonce. P-Smooth I agree with you, as a music fan I would love to see more artist bring originality to this genre. But from the business side I see why most artist choose not to. Originality is more difficult to sell execs on then in hip-hop. With album sales down and single song internet sales up their focus is sadly one track at a time not the long-term music goals of i15. Simple, save, midtempo track which will get them some airplay.

Nowhere near "Lost in Love" which is still one of my favorite songs...but I stil love these guys, they can really sing, and Polow Da Don can do no wrong.

I'm lovin this! Yeah it's the first time I hear it and I haven't understood much, the song seems a lil confused, but I like the overall result. Production is catchy (reminds me of Bed by J Holiday) and they sing well. I'm not very fond of rnb, but this one is cool to me

Groups that have that singing/rapping angle usually do not last very long (see Pretty Ricky, Da Band). It's just hard to appeal to both ends without sounding forced and contrived.
This song is driven by Polow's production - which happens for every artist who uses his board work. You cannot hate on the guys for being the recipient. Overall, my biggest fault with TOOTI FRUITIE is the chorus; I just don't find it very catchy. The verses are enjoyable. |

I'm sorry, but this is far from being amazing. The production is the only thing that saves this song from getting one star. The lyrics are just too...generic for me. Sorry.
