Hollywood Floss’ last non-freestyle feature, the reader-approved Mr. Big Stuff, found the Houston native discussing the difficulties of life as a (literal) shorty. As the cliché goes, though, it’s what’s inside that counts – and, judging by new single I’ll Be Honest, it’s only a matter of time before Floss’ inner colossus comes out to stomp all over hip-hop’s bustling metropolis. Over a brassy, chaotically soulful Chipmunk-sampled beat (co-produced by Chris Robinson and the artist himself) he announces his intent to take it all the way to the top of the industry. Till his dreams of being the King Kong on the game’s Empire State Building come to fruition, though, he’s content to fling stones at a few of the genre’s reigning Goliaths: “I’ll be honest, hate Jay-Z came back, he shoulda stopped after ‘Fade to Black… ” Floss’ willingness to speak his mind makes for a cut more thought-provoking than your usual braggadocious banger. But enough from me – what do you think, Booth readers? If you’re digging it, you can find I’ll Be Honest and more on Floss’ re-released House of Dreams LP, out now on iTunes.

Every rapper and their mother likes to create a record about defying the odds, overcoming obstacles, and eventually... wait for it... rising to the top (of the industry). Most of the time these songs come across as stale, boring, and over-indulgent (look it up).

Luckily, for Floss, I didn't feel this way about this new song of the same subject matter. It has a nice live element. Its full of life and energy. And it sounds like Floss isn't just going through the motions, but rather truly believing in his abilities. Kudos.

The sample chop is dope and the change-up at the end takes it over the top - Ill Floss

Solid offering from Floss a lot of honesty here, especially considering according to him It Was Written > Illmatic. That takes king kong juevos to admit in hip-hop.

Not bad, I think the ratings are a bit high on this one but I was really impressed with the lyrics and the hook. The production sounds a little too generic for me and brings the track down a little bit. Still, H Floss was a beat on the mic.

I'll be honest (sorry, couldn't help myself), I could do without the hook. It feels overdone. Other than that though, this is one hell of an enjoyable ride. The beat's huge and Floss does more than his fair share of rhymespitting. Props.

Floss has the energy but his Lyrical content is what keeps me listening. The production is generic, that was my original thought at first but I did like the break. Wish it came earlier in the song though. But too, I'm not really a fan of that production formula. You know tuned sample , drums horns, etc. Everyones done that. I wish he link up wish some producers who have an original sound. Kinda like an OutKast/Organized Noize sound. He'd kill it then. 3.5 stars from me.

This is some authentic hip hop right here, Floss put in those bars while the production really backed him up.
