The 165th entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of Grieves, the Brooklyn native who earned reader approval for EP inclusion Smile for the Blade back in February. On his brand new, exclusive Shark Week freestyle, the up-and-comer flows over original boardwork by Budo. Grieves is currently working on his yet-untitled Rhymesayers debut, set to drop sometime this fall.

Readers can download a copy of In the Booth (Volume 4), featuring exclusive freestyles 91 through 120, here! Volumes one, two and three are available for download here, here and here. Watch for Volume 5 to hit our front page in late May.

Grieves told me that he doesn't do traditional "freestyles," but that he'd love to create an original song incorporating the Booth as close to a freestyle as possible. I said, do it.

Thus, not that the back story is behind us (haha), the end result is on point. Big fan of the original production from Budo, and the flow (while lacking slightly in energy) is solid from beginning to end and engaging without being over-the-top. Extra points for the originality and length. I'm looking forward to the Rhymesayers debut.

Love this dude's flow. By looking at him, you couldn't tell if he had a good flow or not, but you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The beat is nice.

Cool track. The beat isn't anything special but his flow complimented it well.

I keep telling myself not to make assumptions based on a picture and yet again I found my expectations to be horribly wrong. Solid "freestyle" track no doubt.

Production sounded pretty simple. Couple of instrumentals mending together with his voice wasn't a bad thing. While his voice and flow really doesn't grab me and leave me begging for more, Grieves does more than enough to show me that he has a creative spark hidden somewhere within his grizzly wordplay and Budo's production.

The change that came within the first minute or so as the track dragged on was pretty neat, but it doesn't really elevate the track too much more. Probably wouldn't listen to this again. Seems really slow and boring.

Ok, let me be the first to say that Shark Week is the best week on television. God I love me some Shark Week.

As for this "freestyle", it just so happens that I'm in a more uptempo mood at the moment, but Grieves nails the laid back flow. Rhymesayers don't just sign anyone, so look at for Grieves. As we can hear here, the dude's got a future.

Damn,I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I couldn't help it, just like @Blaze31, and I was taken by surprise. This is a great freestyle.

As best as I can remember the only legit freestyle in this entire series was Hurricane Chris, but whatever...

I loved the beat. Nice, simple, smooth and it blended nicely with his verses.
