Gorilla Zoe - Echo
Producer: Drumma Boy
Album: Don't Feed the Animals
Label: Block/E1
With the March 17th release date of sophomore album Don’t Feed The Animals less than a week away, Gorilla Zoe‘s marketing team at Block/Bad Boy South have been scrambling for a fitting follow-up to online mega-hit (and modest offline success) Lost. Though previously-featured Rick Ross collabo What It Is (with an added verse by Kollossus) was officially planned as the second single, the label team has decided to turn its attention to the album’s last track as well. In perhaps his most crossover-friendly record yet, Zoe dismisses a woman who’s been nothing but trouble; though she’s pleading for him to give her another chance, he’s already left the building, so all she’s going to hear is her own Echo. Produced by Drumma Boy, Echo is both a potential hit and the perfect record to showcase Zoe’s artistic growth. It does, however, raise one important question: once Don’t Feed The Animals drops, should we be looking out for a follow-up composed entirely of such crossover hits?

Never have even put any of Gorilla Zoe songs on the ipod ever but this is the best I've heard of him Drumma boy brings a hot production that is radio-ready and has a nice beat! Gorilla Zoe does good even with his slow laid back flow and deep voice he matches the beat well. His hook is well-created and sounds catchy. Banger!

I like this from Zoe. It is pretty catchy and the production is solid. Sounds like he's on the auto-tone, but he doesn't sound bad. I'll give him a 3.5, not quite a banger but I like the direction that Zoe is headed in.

I really dont know about Gorilla Zoe. I understand Weezy and Kanye doin the singing thing, but Gorilla Zoe? Just wierd to me...
I do have to say, I love his low voice and auto-tune vocals on Lost, but because its such a dark song and the vocals sort of reflect the pain and darker dimmension of the song. With a happier beat like this it is OK, but doesnt have the same appeal. The production is very modern and the entire track is definitely well equipt for "pop" radio. I ain't hatin on that, just nothin more than OK for me. |

Why the low ratings guys? If this was kanye or wayne or some MAJOR artist, you guys would be rating it 4 or 5. I happen to think this is the best song from him. Lost is awesome, but this song proves that rap can be many genres. Nelly and Tim McGraw did that song a couple years back, weezys going rock. Whats next for zoe?

Oh Boy this sounds so much similiar to 'Electric Guitar' .... i dont think the vocoder downgraded verses in the song..... cos it was executed rightly ... but It sort of became boring after a while....

Not exactly what you'd come to expect from a Gorilla Zoe record, but good for an artist for realizing what works... and then doing one heck of a job with it.

OMG! :o He's totally singing!!! SINGING! Where will this autotune craze take us...?!
I hope we don’t forget to tell the genres though, I mean, this is NOT rap. He better have the nerve to admit, like Kanye, that he made a pop song. Hip Hop is not dead, but is this trend the death of the gangsta image in hip hop? |

Not sure I'd be throwing "gay" around Italy, but if that's how you roll, do your thing. But how exactly is this song gay? Does it like songs of the same sex? I didn't know that was even possible.
As for the song, I totally wasn't expecting this at all from Gorilla Zoe. I'm not a huge fan of the autotune, unless it's done well and I think he did his thing here and the production is pretty ill. I think this would be rated higher if people didn't look at the name and just evaluated the actual song |

Im not sure what is goin on with all the gay talk. I mean I can understand if he was talking about wearing dresses and wearing high heels.. But in fact - he is not. Aside from all that. I think its a decent song. I agree with P-Smooth saying he isnt the best rapper but he is certainly an entertainer. And I was entertained when listening to this track. You can hear this song being played anywhere.

Nice track here for Gorilla Zoe that is definitely a different side of him. I like the R&B approach, and the overall lyrical content isn't too shabby, despite a few weak rhymes and lines. Hook-wise, "Echo" is solid, and the vocals really aren't that bad at all. Good offering from Zoe here, Don't Feed Da Animals is lookin' pretty respectable as of now.

Drumma Boy is on fire right now, cause he definitely has a smash with this joint. Its such a pity that Gorilla Zoe is the artist, because I could see a pop or rnb singer getting on this. Zoe+autotune=mediocre results. It works, but it would have been ten times better with an actual singer.

So is this like, gangstas in touch wit dere feelings? he got a single wit britney spears next? ok ok all jokes aside the concept is good and i enjoy the song when i stop laughing, but then i hear zoe singing and i start laughing again... i agree this would be better wit kanye on it, altho im gettin so sick of this computerized vocoder whatever the f*ck voice movement that hip hop is going thru.

Yup,, he is singing,,, I think it is the dopest thing to hear...
My mans a few comments down,, said "Hip Hop is not dead, but is this trend the death of the gangsta image in hip hop?" In my opinion I hope so,,, but probably not... If you look back, at Warren G and Nate Dog, and other groups of the sort, Mayne they knocked it in the dirt. and changed the game for errone... But As far as the Tough gangsta image,,, well I must admit,, Ive been on that bandwagon since I was a scrub, but $h1T I got kids, I dont want them asking me what this and that means, I dont think that anyone should make albums that they wouldnt want their kids to listen too... I believe that this album from Zoe, is probably one of his strongest so far,, it is getting a little deeper into his realness,,, and if you people think it is weak and stupid,, then you are probably the same people that are too hard to smile when ya get ya picture taken.. lol anyway,, Good goin Zoe,, keep it trill |

Romora commented that if this was Kanye or Wayne, we would have been giving it 4 and 5's... quite frankly, its true... cuz I sure would of.
Gorilla Zoe reminds me of a gangsta rapper failing badly at making a crossover hit on this track. I listened to this track before a couple of weeks ago and thought it was okay... but now I hate it. The beat is wonderful... but the lyrics are terrible and so is his voice.... Maybe if they just got a ghostwriter this wud be halfway decent.. but it dosen't even deserve rotation. Kanye or Weezy would have done much more justice to this track... maybe even Jeezy, I even see Luda doin his crossover ish on this... but just not Gorilla Zoe, this is terrible |

First thing's first, the production on this is sick. Drumma Boy sick. Drumma Boy is consistently on point even when venturing into more "poppy" territory such as this.
As for Zoe, well while I appreciate and artist going out and getting his it's sometimes a shame to seem them change (or lose?) their artistic integrity for airplay and dollars. Am I crazy in thinking that Zoe sounded much better on hits like "Hood Ni**a"? That was Zoe right there and that's how he did should sound. I liked "Lost" because it seemed original but it was still the same old Zoe, even though he was starting to walk the fine line he more than crossed with this track. While artists should evolve, it doesn't seem quite right to GZ to end up on a track that would most likely by an Akon banger. Let's put into perspective and talk Jeezy and Zoe: both were members (leaders?) of Boyz N Tha Hood and both have gone to to their solo missions. Jeezy stayed hard, hot, relevant and respected. And ZOE...Zoe ... zoe? |

@Z - If you ever have a interview with Drumma Boy, recommend that he only produce beats for Jeezy. Every track/freestyle ive heard from Jeezy over a Drumma Boy beat has been sick. IMO, those two are the perfect rapper/producer combo. |
