Glasses Malone‘s debut studio album has been a long time coming, but Beach Cruiser‘s release is finally on the horizon. Heralding the full-length’s arrival on store shelves this summer is this newly-released single, which finds the up-and-comer East Sidin alongside his Crip Gang mentor, Uncle Snoop. While some may be disappointed to hear that the West Coast legend contributes only a quick vocal hook to the record, Malone’s own performance on the mic doesn’t fail to impress; over producer Tommy Gunz’ stark blend of chromatic synths and syncopated percussion, the four-eyed emcee spits characteristically gruff, hard-nosed bars peppered with clever turns of phrase (”I especially like the rag that I wear / same color as blood is before exposed to air”). So, readers, does this minimal street banger have the appeal to ensure G.M.‘s endlessly-delayed freshman album rolls into record stores and online retailers while the spring flowers are still fresh? For now, we can only speculate…

Not into this one at all...as mentioned, the primary message here has been used, reused, and it's now just not interesting anymore. What annoys me the most, though, is the bare, Halloween-sounding production that gets tiring within the first few seconds after the track begins.

@DjKidd, this isn't about being or sounding gangsta; Malone is from the West Coast and this is a sound from that region.
That hand-clap pattern has been overused, but if you CRANK this one up it BANGS (just not on a "Banger" level). I too would have loved to hear Snoop spit a 16, but his contributions to the hook make this a catchy head-nodder. A few changes here and there and it would have been a smash. As is its "in rotation." |

This would have faired much better during the 90s but has little to no market appeal anymore..perfect for c-walking but nothing else

I wasn't personally feelin this. But it's probably because of where I'm from. I like a lot of WC music though, but I just couldn't get with this. The beat was only average and Glasses was ultimately forgettable for me. Snoop was kinda tight on the hook but I would have loved a verse from him. So I'll give this a 2.5, but round up because of my bias.

If this was Snoop's song, it would of been better. But Glasses isn't as charismatic as Snoop or another WC rapper like Game. As for the concept, the crip message was the best part of the song, esp. with Snoop on the hook.
Sidebar: Blood is always red, it's just a common misconception that blood is blue before it's exposed to air. |

This beat bangs and Glasses is hot on the verses. Snoop on the hook is cool. It is a little boring as far as subject matter, but Glasses has some nice lines in there.

Not to dig too far into it, but while "gangsta" rap is on the way out, gangs are still very much alive (just ask anyone who lives in LA or the Chi or a thousand other places), and gang rap is as alive as ever. I don't know anything about the man personally, so I can't even remotely speak to how "actually" connected to the Crips Glasses is. Just something to consider.
On a purely musical level, I feel like this beat is a little too clean for the flow. Dirty it up a bit and we'd have a real banger on our hands. |

Very seldom do you hear a record driven by a Snoop chorus that isn't rotation worthy. I think that is the case here. This sounds like it could have been a soundtrack cut from his "Hood of Horror" film. Malone's vocals [Almost forgot he was on this] don't sound mastered to me on this.

snoop was dope on the hook, if he spat a verse this song wouldve been a banger no questions asked. as it turns out he doesnt get one so i can only rate this rotation-worthy. the beat is alright but overused, glasses is too generic.
