Gilbere Forte' - Train Lights
Artist: Gilbere Forte'
Producer: Bink!
Album: Eyes of Veritas
Label: EPIC
Gilbere Forte is a star on the rise, and hip-hop is only the horizon. His resume on the Booth is as diverse as it is impressive, and with tracks from Kanye West (Alors on Danse) to STS (My Time), you can count on the man to drop something remarkable each and every time. What we find today from Forte’s musical grab bag is the second single from his Don Cannon hosted mixtape, Train Lights. Produced by Bink!, who many know as the Devil in a New Dress producer, the haunting chorus mixes in well with the Freestyle Series alum’s lyricism, delivering a more mainstream-friendly vibe while keeping the edginess from his previous, more underground successes. The only thing that some might take away from the track is the cluttered boardwork in between verses, but while that may deter some, Forte manages to use the concoction to bring his usually exciting bars to the table. If you liked how this one hits you like a 10-ton…well…you know, then be sure to keep a lookout for his latest free project, Eyes of Veritas, dropping on February 8.

Just when you think you've figured out Gilbere and all his eclectic styles, the man employs Bink! to sample... ready for it... Tears for Fears? Oh, f**k yes. Not that I wasn't before, but I am on board this train for good (I know, bad pun).

Wow. Gilbere really never, ever disappoints. That sample was sooo dope, and the snare pattern knocks! Vocal wordplay is on point and the track has an overall true hip hop feel to it.

Part of what I loved about Devil in a Blue Dress was how much it did with so little, so I wonder if a little "less is more" would have been the right call on the beat.
When you're breaking down small details like that you know you're dealing with a hell of a record. The only thing I know about Forte is that I couldn't possible predict what's coming next from him, and that's exactly why he's on my "must listen" list. |

I had this track on repeat four times since I clicked play. So i guess that means I like it.
I never expected a track like this from him and I am impressed. The sample made the track even better, it added that extra thing that made it a really good song. |

Gilbert = Dope. Commands the track well.
Always been a fan of Bink, but to be honest this beat = kinda gets old fast. |
