Gilbere Forte' - Push the Bar
Artist: Gilbere Forte'
Producer: Raak & Forte'
Album: None (Promo Single)
Label: EPIC
Few artists in Booth history have been able to innovate as consistently as Gilbere Forte’; with each feature, the Philly buzzmaker has found a fresh new way to Push the Bar (y’know, pushing the envelope and raising the bar, all at once). On the freestyle series alum‘s latest promo single, released to commemorate Forte’ being featured in SocietySOP‘s 2010 Fall/Winter Lookbook, he flips the script on us yet again. Over his and co-producer Raak‘s uniquely dope boardwork, an ominous melange of synth whirs and burbles backed with plodding percussion, the up-and-comer slow-flows his way through a braggadocio-drenched opener in addition to delivering a sung chorus. Bringing up the rear is Re-Up Gang member AB-Liva, whose guest contribution finds him contemptuously sweeping aside the haters and sucker emcees. So, Booth readers, what do you think – is Forte’ speaking the truth when he boasts that he can “...kill any rapper without even sayin’ sh*t”? Those who consider his swag well-justified should keep their browsers locked you-know-where for all the latest news and tunes from the Northeastern fast-riser.

Just TRY and put Gilbere is a box... he won't be there for very long. Its amazing the musical versatility he shows here, both as an emcee and producer, stepping away from a sound we're slightly familiar with and coming across much harder (more street). Ab-Liva helps the cause, but don't be confused... this is all about Gilbere.

I knew this beat sounded familiar but I couldn't place it, until this morning when I realized it samples some old school Def Jux. I can't remember which track exactly, but the point is Forte can rhyme on tracks like 1st Floor and next to the Re-Up Gang. The man's the definition of versatility.
And I can't agree with ATX more. I've been yelling 'Make My Sandwich!" all weeeend. |

Hard to believe this is the same artist when you listen to some of his past stuff. Not that his past stuff is bad, it's just drastically different. Like Z said it's just amazing the musically versatility that Gibere has.

Nothing here stands out for me. If "make my sandwhich" is his best line, hes got bigger problems then this average so-so track.
