The Gent$ - Snake Skin Tie
Artist: The Gent$
Producer: Wes Restless
Album: Untitled Project
Label: Enohes Music/State and Madison
Before today, I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as a Snake Skin Tie – and, to be honest, the idea strikes me as a little more weird than cool (I mean, would you trust a guy wearing part of a cobra around his neck?). The Gent$, however, are clearly more stylish men than I, so I’m going to have to defer to their opinion in matters of fashion. Making its world premiere right here in the Booth, the first leak off the Chi-town trio’s forthcoming street album (and their first group feature) finds emcees Pugs Atomz (“The good Gent,” and the rapper behind the Booth-sponsored Stormy mixtape) and Ill Legit (“The slick Gent”) giving listeners a lesson on looking fresh and partying hard, flowing over the minimalistically cool synth boardwork of singer/producer Wes Restless (“The soulful Gent”). Brimming with suave braggadocio and oddball punchlines (“Fine dining, bet she never had caviar/ blowin’ blueberry till we’re looking like Avatar”), Snake Skin Tie is a Booth debut that listeners won’t soon forget. If you like what you’re hearing, keep it locked to our front page for release info on the Gent$’ yet-untitled mixtape, as well as all the latest tunes.

Production is real tight though, and this guys flow was cool. Rotation. |

Dope hip hop. I've seen these guys live here in Chicago and hey put on one helluva show. The energy is incredible and by far one of their greatest assets.

I'll put it in rotation...lyrics are cool and i like the sample...but the synth really doesn't go with it and it sounds like the engineer is an amateur.

This beat is so sick and toward the end how it changed up was a nice relief. As a rapper, he was decent but he's got a cool flow.
Yeah, I hear Just a Lil' Bit too. |

Didn't know what to make of this at first, but after a few listens I have to say I'm digging it. Definitely something unique. And yes, the opening lines are a version of 50's Just A Lil Bit.
By the way, I predict a flood of Avatar references are on the way. |

It sounds like just a lil bit, but thats just because he is using the same keyboard as scott storch. Besides that the beat is much different. I love when they break it down at 2:28

A sparse bass-heavy beat combined with simmering electrosynth/flute lines make the track instantly recognizable. Its the melody on electronic flute that resembles "Just A Lil Bit", though, overall production sounds like something @Coolkidsinthehall would do.
Verses were pretty cool, displaying their ability for creative wordplay in the process. Pugs Atomz keeps on impressing me with his ability to flow over a wide variety of beats. |
