The Gent$ - Ice Cream [Premiere]
Artist: The Gent$
Producer: Anton Genius
Album: High Profile
Label: Enohes Music/State and Madison
If there’s one thing that everyone can agree is simply great, Ice Cream is it. Well, everyone except for the lactose intolerant. And vegans. Guess I didn’t think that one through so well; especially since the latest mixtape leak from Windy City trio The Gent$, making its world premiere in the Booth, doesn’t actually have anything to do with the frozen dessert. Instead, the cut finds Pugs Atomz, Ill Legit and Wes Restless on a quest to sample every “flavor” of woman on the planet. Over Anton Genius’ blurting synth-bass and laid-back percussion, the Gent$ and guest emcee Awdazcate deliver one food-related double-entendre after another; if you’re the kind of person who finds puns like “Cheerio – you’re a cereal killer” hilarious (and I most definitely am), there’s a good chance you’ll love what the Chi-town representatives serve up here. Does Ice Cream have you screaming for more? Be sure to check out the Gent$’ DJBooth.net-hosted High Profile mixtape, arriving on our front page April 28.

Its funny. When I see the title "ice cream" I think either women or candy-colored cars. Jeez, rap has skewed my normal thought process. Anyways...
Its no surprise we are big fans of The Gents here in the Booth. Their material is all original and fresh, their rhymes are hella creative, and their live show (which sadly, we cannot display on the site tonight) is full of insane energy (something this song lacks, due to the tempo of the production - which is Cool Kidseqcue.) 4/28... mark it down. |

Chuck Inglish does it again!...wait...ok, Anton Genius does it again!? Hah I can't help but call it a banger simply for that fact. The Gent$ presented somethin' nice here.

The intro was too wierd for me. I hate the hook and I can't stress enough why. With all the bad points out of the way, all three verses were great. It's like I said on there last track, you just can't go wrong with Pugz on a track. Probably one of my favorite booth MCs as of right now.
With that said and done, minus the hook and you have yourself a Banger for sure. |

The production just reminds me a of person on a bass guitar. Not really the sound but just the over feel to it.
The chorus is hilarious and really clever at the same time. The verses are well done as well. I don't really have a favorite but that's because they are all on the same level, a good level at that. Another great all around song by The Gent$. While the chorus and the production are the center pieces to me in this song, everything just comes together real well for "Ice Cream." |

I love ice cream, yet I refuse to like it in hip-hop. This is a really freaky song, and a bit too freaky for me. The beat is off and really hard to like. The chorus is creepy with the high voices. Seems like they're trying to hard to get their girls. It is a very original song, but maybe too original.

I I I ICE CREAM PAINT JO... uhh ohh uhm wrong sog damn ANYWAYSSSS.....
this is so weird. the beginning leaves you scratching you head wondering on whether they gave a 12 year old free rome on the beat, or some dude who just got drugged up on lord knows what. its a beat that will grow on you thou so refrain from using any select button when rating until at least 2 listens. i hate the chorus it sounds like a sober Gucci mane not appealing what so ever. the song itself is payful and thats why i actually like it. 3 cause its in rotation maybe not in my mp3 but definitely in my head! |

To be honest, I expected more after listening to the Award Tour.
the synth-base got annoying a little while into the song, and the intro and hook were average. the slow tempo had me falling asleep, but it wasn't bad. Pros: creative lyrics, catchy tune but other than that I wasn't really feelin' it. It will fit other people's tastes better, and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into a popular song, but just not my style. 2.5 rounded up because I like ice cream(and the lyrics:) |

Why the hell does the intro remind me of Spawn?
The funky bounce is overkill. It is just so damn distracting from the vocal. I can't help but think an alien is speaking at the same time. The hook is smooth. Slick smooth. It's like Pharrell with a hint of R&B smothered in butter. Nah, like a scoop of the finest vanilla ice cream melting on your tongue in a scorching New York summer. It is growing on me though. |

Like RyanSx said, the intro was very weird. And that continued in the track for the most part. Verses were nice but this just isn't something I'd consider in-rotation.

Now this is a let down after their first two features. The production isn’t complicated — it’s straight forward and easy to figure out, but its repetitiveness not really doin it for me. Not to my taste at all.
Vocals on hook are not as powerful either, making it more the forgettable song. What hasn't changed though is The Gent$ creative rhymes, which are definitely worth investing some time in. 2.5 |

Makes me want to listen to wu, not that this isn't decent but its not the same. Creative lyrics but the chorus is kind of killin me and on top of that beat...it makes me focus on how much i don't want to listen to them so this will need a replay b/c I totally missed everything they said.

I think a little heavier bass would've sounded better, but I kind of liked production as is.
Definitely be checking out High Profile next week |

I'm not quite sure what just doesn't work with me on this one. The beat is solid but the chorus in particular provokes a minor headache for me. I'm a fan of The Gent$ but this track doesn't have any of the positive qualities I've enjoyed from their previous features. I'll give it a 2.

Reminded me of some funky Outkast song, although not nearly as good. The repeating beat gets annoying fast and nothing special lyrically.

Not liking the hook. The beat is lacking too. The verses are alright. Wouldn't listen to this again.

I seriousy thought I would see Dorrough as a guest feauture because of the track name "Ice Cream"...good thing he wasn't on here though. The production is super weird but it doesn't lack any creativity thats for sure. The beat gets a little repetitive...but I'm not gunna complain about that because what i really wanna complain about is the god awful hook. I think it's self explanatory that the hook is what hurts this track the most. The verses impressed me though as they did with their last track and I just wish they wouldn't have had the Pharrell sounding hook...which even if its not him on this track he still needs to stick to rapping as mentioned plenty of times!!

3 for the verses, 0 for everything else in my opinion. Listened once, and thats enough for me.

This is eclectic...but may be too eclectic for some. However, I dig it, so I'm giving it a 4 (though it would be a 3.5 if we had half ratings)
