The Gent$ - Award Tour [Premiere]
Artist: The Gent$
Producer: Vanysh
Album: High Profile
Label: Enohes Music/State and Madison
Is it a little early for The Gent$, the Windy City trio who brought us Snake Skin Tie back in January, to be planning their first Award Tour? Well, yeah – but, then again, there’s nothing wrong with dreaming big. On their latest single, making its world premiere right here in the Booth, emcees Pugs Atomz and Ill Legit and singer Wes Restless paint a vivid lyrical portrait of the swanky gig of their dreams – beautiful women everywhere, free fried chicken and corn on the cob served in the lobby, tasteful bowties… – as beatsmith Vanysh rolls out the red carpet with an appropriately exultant blend of sampled brass and soulful backing vocals. Here’s hoping that the trio’s latest mixtape, the DJBooth.net-sponsored High Profile, brings them closer to the lofty dreams described here, when it hits our front page April 28. And, guys, I’m gonna be on the guest list when this all goes down, right?

This is a solid all around track. I don't mind intros, they just build anticipation for the song.

Good track, I just think the loud Whoo'ss in the background are a lil loud and distracting but still a good track..

Wow, I don't think many people are for the intro. All around not bad. Just not great either.

I swear, you just can't go wrong with Pugz on a track, but those annoying interludes in between verses and in the intro have got to go. Only thing keeping this track from being a banger. Still hot, nonetheless.

I thought the intro was a little annoying. The beat was good, but their verses were below average. I might look at some of their stuff in the future though.

hahah forget the english sounding guy in the intro and throught the track get dave chappele and make this an instant classic haha yes yes.
now too the song uhhhhh uhhh well its not bad but though, actually, idk how too feel about this track, a little bored then a little humorous. the beat is boring and the chorus makes me fall into wanna fall into comma not a good combination. if you keep listenin too the woman before the trumpet inserts in the instrumental it gets annoying you can definitly tell why the announcer is one of the highlights on this track, he has so much input in this song because he takes you through the track its dissapointing that really him and the select verses are what carry this song it deserves 2.5 spins in my opinion nothing more then 3 |

Produiction is half way decent, but yeah wordplay needs work, and the hook isn't anything to talk about.

i know alot of people saying the announcer was the highlight of this track but it kinda annoyed me. i liked the hook cause it fit the slow beat . not to sayeither of these were that great. but what i did enjoy about this was the fact that it had content. it portrayed a vivid picture of what it takes to be succesful and how it feels to be successful. thats what kept me listening. i'd say its a 3.5 maybe 4

Not the best I have heard, but it was pretty good and I appreciated the concept, which is the reason I gave it 4 stars. Pretty nice flow, I expect to hear more of The Gents in the future.

I didn't mind the intro, but the interruptions were kinda annoying even if they were important for the song. The verses could use some work.

Interesting how some folks like the announcer breaks and others don't. I think without the announcer vocals the song wouldn't suffer, but it also wouldn't be as creative...

rhymes are weak. the intro really needs to be changed. Not feeling this premier really. Probably not worth the download anywhere.

The announcer made me laugh and it's a nice gimmick, but it's the kind of creative flourish that's only funny the first time.
As for the actual song, the brass is nothing we haven't heard before. The actual rhymes were pretty forgettable, probably because I was waiting for the announcer guy to say something even more ridiculous. I say skip it. |

Without the different approach I doubt this is a FEATURE so props to The Gent$ for creating a unique record. What it lacks in lyricism more than makes up for in artistic creativity.

"Oh my God Corn on the Cob" the announcer was kinda funny, but the beat was nice. Lyrics Okay. It has potential. I think it was creative.

HAHAHAHAHA "Fried Chicken In The lobby"
Oh man, I love the announcer...that is what makes this song (creativity wise). The lyrics are good. Production on point. I like it. |

To much introduction and talking. Its more of a skit than a song. I wouldnt ever listen to this again. Not my type of entertainment. I want music not skits.

Has a little bit of Kudi-like swag to it. Great Production; Only thing I'm worried the on-goign skit through the whole thing...But anyway I'm kinda diggin this whole transformation from gangsta to hipster, it's a nice little vacation until T.I.P and Jezzys hit the market again.

I'm one of the people that doesn't like the announcer simply because if I wanna jam out to this song it kinda disrupts the mood and listening to this soulful song. The production isnt my favorite but I could see myself listening to this some more because of the nice wordplay by The Gents. They have talent for sure, but I don't know if they will be recieving any awards yet.

Smart-assery done right. I must say that I was completely engulfed in it on the first listen but its kind of a joint which is great until the novelty wears off.
Lyrically proficient but not up to par with their first feature, which I hope y'all greedy members done checked out by now! |

The commentary is pretty funny but gets old after a while. The production is real polished and almost has a jazz feel to it. The verses are decent but nothing that stood out to me. All together not a bad song at all but I would love to hear the song without the commentary, I think it would come off a lot better and sound more serious.

Felt the intro was a bit long, and his rhymes aren't that great. Not liking the extra commentary during the chorus either.
