After a seemingly endless series of album delays and a few downright bizarre musical missteps (see P*ssy Fight... or better yet, don’t.), could Game be back to his old, dope self again—just in time for the release of his fourth album? Never say never. Fresh off receiving widespread Booth approval for aggrieved single Pot of Gold, the Compton mainstay is back with Infrared, an LP leak likely to leave fans with high hopes for what lies ahead. Here, Cool & Dre‘s syncopated handclaps and sampled string stabs set a retro-informed mood as Jayceon Taylor updates us on his feelings regarding damn near everyone in the industry. And surprisingly, the vast majority of his musings are positive—though he does telegraph the potential revival of an old beef (“Will I ever go at Nas? Hell no! / Will I ever go at Jay-Z? I don’t know!”) Whether Game’s back to his feuding ways or not, though, the emcee sounds rejuvenated and ready to reclaim his throne as a West Coast heavyweight. Or have I got it twisted? If you like hat you’re hearing, be sure sure to mark your calenders for the August 23, release of his long-awaited senior set, The R.E.D. Album.
