French Montana - Go Hard
Artist: French Montana
Producer: Harry Fraud
Album: Mac With the Cheese 2 Mixtape
Label: Bad Boy/Interscope
With a long list of mixtape releases and a popular DVD series (Cocaine City) under his belt, South Bronx emcee/label owner French Montana has grown into a major player on the underground scene. On Go Hard, the first leak off his latest project, the rapper who brought us New York Minute lets listeners in on his surefire recipe for street success: work, work and more work – with the occasional break for stunting and womanizing, of course. Flowing over a smooth, spacey sampled instrumental by Brooklyn beatsmith Harry Fraud, French asserts his supremacy on the block as well as the mic, spitting, “Ask about the game, they’ll tell you I brung it back like a quarter white.” Is this underground mainstay truly “the future” of the rap game? Only time will tell, but those digging this hard-nosed track should keep it locked to DJBooth.net for the latest on Montana’s Mac With the Cheese 2 mixtape, which has yet to receive a solid release date.

It seems like there are two types of French Montana fans - those who love him and those who hate him (and yes, I people who hate on artists are secretly fans). I am in the middle right now. I want to like him more than I do, but his flow isn't the easiest to endorse.
With that said, the man knows how to pick production that really works best for his style of rap. I am rounding up... |

Before this song, "New York Minute" was the only previous song I'd heard from FM, but this was tight too. That production was really well done. I always love those smooth productions, and it fit French Montana great. I just liked the overall, slower vibe of this song. It worked well.

Z nailed it, you either like Montana's flow or you don't, although I don't think it's a matter of hating, just personal preference. I like McD's better than BK - that doesn't mean I'm hating on BK, I just don't like their fries.
That was a really long way of saying no hate, but I'm just not feeling this. |

A pleasantly chillin' beat, infused with a slight touch of jazz tones is straight up dope! but French Montana's content, rhymes and flow ain't doing anything that really stands out from others. And that basically goes for all his jaunts I've heard, so far.
Still, beat on this one makes up for the average content. Rotation-Stuff. |
