Freeway - Snappa Pow
Featuring: Peedi Crakk
Producer: Jake One
Album: Diamond in the Ruff
Label: Unsigned
Growing up in Philadelphia, one of the most monstrous songs I ever heard come out of the City of Brotherly Love was Freeway and Peedi Crack’s Flipside. With Freeway preparing to release his new album, Diamond in The Ruff, he hopes to duplicate the impact of that early record with his new single, Snappa Pow, featuring, of course, Peedi Crack. Produced by his now constant beatmaker Jake One, the beat gives us that heavy high-hat and bass drum knocks, as well as some sounds that are eerily similar to Obie Trice’s The Set Up. But instead of the traditional two verses from the main artist and one from the feature, Free and Peedi take a different route, exchanging words after every eight bars. This actually works in their favor, giving us more time to hear both of their unique styles, while allowing us to stay in the flow without being interrupted. If you’re digging Snappa, be sure to check out Diamond in the Ruff when it’s released sometime in 2011 – hopefully the final version will brings us more dope hits like this from the newly free Peedi Crack and the Philly Freezer.

This is a distinct change of pace from the last handful of records we got from Free. Its classic Free, but I hope that doesn't mean we won't be going in the direction I thought this new project was headed.

Great call by Jor-El on the Young Gunz comparison, I definitely hear it. Personally I like some of the more soul sounding work Free and Jake have been doing lately, but it's always good to get that old school Philly flavor with the Freezer and Peedi.

Im kinda tied both ways. This is an "OK" record. I dont love it and i dont hate it. Its very catchy, with a nice flow of verses. But the verses are random and dont stay in line. The production is very nice from Jake One. In rotation for me. Maybe i rated it too high......

I like the energy the beat has and like some of the other booth members I think it resembles something Young Gunz would put out.

I found myself listening to the beat more than the lyrics, which isn’t always a good thing.

Classic Mid Era Clavs. Jake One and Free can do better though.

Is this really freeway? A change of pace indeed, and the wrong change of pace at that.
