In a recent interview with Mimi Soul of music blog Finding the B-Side, our own DJ Z stated that “Independent artists and labels are the future of this industry,” and, judging by the increasing number of major artists jumping ship, that future doesn’t seem too far off.  With the release of his latest LP through Real Talk Ent., Freeway will add his name to the growing list of major heavyweights-gone-indie—a move that’s he’s confident will leave him with more paper to stack than ever before.  On the lead single off Philadelphia Freeway 2, the rapper asks all listening to throw their Hands Up as he details his legendary hustle.  Cozmo, the beatsmith who recently earned Booth accolades for his work on Sheek Louch‘s Time 2 Get Paid, backs Freeway’s characteristically gruff rhymes with a sweeping mix of music-box synths and orchestral/choral flourishes, and the result is a crowd-pleasing club cut with a street edge.  Sure to have listeners goin’ stupid wherever it’s played, Hands Up can be found on the emcee’s third studio album when it drops on Tuesday.

I normally like Freeway, but I just wasn't feelin this track. The flow is OK, the hook is kinda boring, and the production is aight. Nothing stand-out here.

Production went hard! Freeway could have ripped this a lot harder, but I was easily feeling it. Chorus was nice as well, just wished for a little more.

I have heard a good portion of this new Freeway album and I must say: this is one of the BEST cuts on the project. Cozmo has a flair for that street edge/club ready production and Freeway does his thing very naturally over it.

The production really kicked this record off from the start. Freeway sounds good on here. Easily in rotation.

File this under the "Independent Is the New Major" category.

This will definitely go into rotation in the clubs. Has a classic independent vibe which I'm sure will do well in Philly. Still waiting for Freeway to bring back the style he came with on Free At Last (which in my mind is his best album), but it's just good to see him back right now.

I like the production but not his flow. I quote XT13, it's not a song one could remember long...nothing stands out! Too repetitive
