Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder – or, as the case may be, the ear of the listener – but, judging by the Booth reaction to Philly heavyweight (and freestyle series alum) Freeway and behind-the-boards cohort Jake One‘s recent collaborative output, I think readers will agree that this new cut is indeed Beautiful Music. Single numero uno off the follow-up to this year’s acclaimed Stimulus Package LP, this joint is a relatively subdued affair, with Jake serving up a quiet, piano-led backdrop for Free’s alternately reflective and aggressive rhymes. In addition to summarizing his recent grind (“2009 we tried, 2010 we focused, tell ‘em jokers they can’t hold us, let me go for mines…”) and waxing poetic about the joys of groupie love, the Northeastern mainstay laces verse two with what may be the greatest cat impression in hip-hop history – who else thinks “me-e-ow!” should become his new signature ad-lib? Come on, it can’t be just me. Anyway, those who think Beautiful Music lives up to its lofty title will want to keep their browsers locked on the Booth for the latest on Diamond in the Rough, which has yet to receive a release date from Rhymesayers Ent.

I idea that we'd ever get a record from Freeway called "Beautiful Music" is something I never imagined. But times change and so do artists. You can tell that the Philly Freezer has experienced a world of music growth over the past two years. I will always prefer my Freeway aggressive, angry, and beasting... but this Freeway is just as interesting and has more longevity.

A new freeway is better than no freeway, I suppose. I, however, do not like this flow after going the entire song- tad annoying. Rhymes are on point, though.

This is def. an improvement and a step in the right direction for Freeway. However to me this just sounds like a mixtape single type track and lacking a little bit of production power behind Freeway's new and most improved style.

Seems more like mixtape material to me. I do enjoy the track though, it just needs something to make it stick out a bit more.

If you had told me five years ago that one day Freeway would be rhyming over almost exclusively underground beats and dropping projects off Rhymesayers, I'd say you were crazy. And yet, here we are, and I couldn't be happier to be here.

Folks are right to say it doesn't blow you away, but that's exactly what I like so much about it. A subdued Free? Man how times have changed.

This really didn’t get going which is unusually for free, I can’t say I enjoyed this.

Freeway got some real soul in his music, makes you wanna really listen. We some more production and a bad ass beat he could be something big with those words.
