FreeSol - Before You Slip
Artist: FreeSol
Featuring: Outasight , Kyle Lucas , 8Ball
Producer: FreeSol
Album: Before You Sleep
Label: Tennman/Interscope
Judging by the rave reviews received by recent features from Miami ensemble ArtOfficial, Booth readers have been nursing a serious craving for rock-infused, live-band hip-hop. Well, Memphis’ FreeSol are here to deliver the goods on new single (and Booth debut) Before I Slip Away, which finds keyboardist Premo D’anger, drummer Kickman Teddy, and vocalist Elliot repurposing Doors track The Crystal Ship as backdrop for emcee Free‘s lyrical meditations on life’s struggles. Along with the frontman’s poignant rhymes, the cut features soul-searching bars from three equally talented guests: Memphis veteran 8Ball, Marietta, Ga. up-and-comer Kyle Lucas, and longtime Booth favorite Outasight deliver diverse but complementary perspectives on loss and hardship. Those digging this catchy yet emotionally involving track can keep it locked for the latest details on FreeSol’s Before You Sleep LP, which has yet to receive a solid release date from the label brass.

Heavy, heavy lyrics. I think FreeSol does a great job of presenting such a depressing subject.
Beat is kickin, especially with the drums and the hook is dope. Really nothing wrong with this one in my opinion. I really love how FreeSol really poured their hearts into the song, and it shows the whole way through. I like listening to rap that makes you appreciate how lucky you really are, and this song does a great job of doing that. |

FreeSol has my attention, I will say that. I come away impressed, but I feel like its because of all the guest contributions from our Booth regulars. Not to mention, this production work is pretty dope.
I'll make a formal decision on the future of this group next time around, but for now I'm riding shotgun. |

8Ball was really the highlight on this. I didn't expect such a real and heartfelt verse from him. FreeSol's production was nice. I thought everything else was just ok.

The intro gives you a great idea of where this song is headed. Another emotion driven track in the booth today.
FreeSol puts down some really strong lines and impresses the hell out of me. It works really well with the piano backed production and Not to sure I like the muffled chorus, it definitely adds to the emotion of the song but it might take away from it a bit too. I would like to hear the lyrics without any modifications to it. All of the guest verses just add to the appeal of the track. None of them really detur from the theme of the song and just give it a stronger backing. If there is any one I like the best it has to be 8Ball's verse. I have always been a fan of his and he kills it on "Before You Slip." I was so happy when he signed with Grand Hustle. Tight track FreeSol. |

When the track started up I was a little skeptical, but all my doubts were quickly taken away when that first verse came on. Outasight's verse was crazy as I expected.
The beat complimented all of their flows. Hook was pretty cool too. 8 Ball's verse was the best out of all four. Had to play this twice before I could really give it a fair rating. I'll give this a solid 3.5 and I'll round up as well :). |

Deep song indeed. Enjoy this live song thing they have going on. Easy song to listen to and it's good to hear from these dudes. This production is good, but the chorus should be sung, not studio edited. Good song though.

Great production and everybody comes through on their part with some heavy effort in pushing deep lyrical content. It keeps listener’s attention from start to finish. Really well done!

I wasn't familiar with FreeSol before this record but he definitely impresses.
I'm always excited for an 8Ball verse and he doesn't disappoint here; the dude has a great flow. (Although I personally enjoy MJG a bit more) Real solid track. |

I KNEW this was gonna be great! ... uhm..
No, actually I had NO idea! =) And that's what makes djbooth such a reliable source for good music. Great arrangements on this production, every instrument is worth a single attention from you! You'd think a 5mn song would get old, but if all rappers delivered like those on this, it could go on for 15, 20mn...! |

It seems like nowadays everyone is making sure the production on their tracks is sensational...this is no exception. I can hear the bass banging through my subwoofer on my computer speakers. Its banging and the Piano in the background is a great addition. Each artist rides the beat distinctively with their own flow...and much to my surprise 8Ball with no MJG?! But even 8Ball was able to pull through with a good verse. I wasn't a big fan of the hook but it could have been worse right?

This is the venue I've been waiting for Kyle Lucas to jump into. I've always liked his voice, just wanted to see him get more serious.
Outasight, man theres alot in store for this guy. I'm glad that warner signed him because he really deserved a major label. FreeSol did a great job not only with his verse but the production not a lot of artists this multi-talented (Kanye anyone?) 8Ball is now officially on my radar, not much else to say other then he was a solid contribution. Based on this song I cant wait to grab the album. |

The hook disappointed me, and the intro thru me off a little bit, i thought B.B king was gonna hop on this track at first.

Classic FreeSol. I'm thrilled the industry choose not to change you all as artists. As usual, I appreciate your message and profound deliverance. I'm so looking foward the world discovering that FreeSol can't be labeled. World met FreeSol, a band, not rappers with a band behind them. Yes, they do have fun songs. Work hard, but play harder. It's all fun if you enjoy your job.
