I’m not going to front. When I first saw that Freddie Gibbs has released a new track titled Oil Money I was nervous. Could Gangster Gibbs have finally sold out and crafted some Arab Money-esque joint for the radio?  Nope, not even a little bit. Thankfully once I pressed play the only humming through my eardrums was a distinctly mellow and left-of-center beat, courtesy of the disturbingly named producer Blended Babies, and the type of dope rhymes mainstream radio wouldn’t dare touch. In addition to DJBooth Freestyle alum Gibbs laying down some mic work, Chuck Inglish (of the Cool Kids), the other Cleveland stoner rapper Chip Tha Ripper and UGK for lifer Bun B also throw down verses, with Black Keys vocalist Dan Auerbach supplying the enigmatic hook. So why is the song called Oil Money? I have no idea, but I do know it’s so dope I don’t care. We can expect more homicidal cuts without any filler when Gibbs’ actually highly anticipated EP Str8 Killa finally drops on August 3 via Decon Records.

You didn't need to listen to this cut to know that Gibbs can spit with the best of them. What I am most impressed with, though, is his ability to wisely choose production partners and collaborators (all of whom cater to his sound and never the other way around).

I won't lie I was kinda put into the zone by this "lullaby." I don't know if it is because it was too melancholy for me, or if I was just too into the track. But probably a combo of both.

Damn, what a combination. Mr. Auerbach was the perfect touch to the hook, The Black Keys are killin it right now too. Nice collab.

I've tried to get into Gibbs style of music for a minute. I give every track he puts on the Booth a shot but to no avail. This particulaxr track is very boring.

the slow banging beat works, its great that gibbs has kept going with the same formula- because it works!

The mellow beat is real simple in the best way. The drums have a nice punch, and that bassline, and organ really compliment the beat. I'm biased because I am the BIGGEST, fan of The Black Keys (Check out their latest installment "Brothers", its friggin awesome!)

Its nice to here The Black Keys collab on a rap track again. I'm still bumpin their BlakRoc album (Equally awesome). Can't go wrong with Bun. B either. This track is an all-around pleasure to listen too.

Tracks like these prove that in addition to dropping some lyrical street bangers, Gibbs is willing to really experiment musically. For me, the man's absolutely unstoppable right now. He may not have won over @The 149th, but personally speaking, I feel like the man's the future of dope hip-hop.

Get that oil money.

This is dope, the cool kids are really starting to branch out, hopefully this means they have an album in the works. Gibbs always sounds cool, but i feel like i havn't been blown away since i first heard him on "born to roll".

In the first 30 seconds I knew I was loving this BUT it just keeps on getting better all the way through. Str8 Killa EP will be amazing. Slow beat with a lil organ en piano works perfectly for me.

Hypnotizing chorus with laid back verses by all 4 rappers (except Gibbs who still went it). Instant classic in my book
