Freddie Gibbs - Thuggin'
Artist: Freddie Gibbs
Featuring: Madlib
Producer: Madlib
Album: Thuggin' EP
Label: CTE
When it was first announced that Madlib and Freddie Gibbs were doing an EP together, rap fans began scratching their heads with legitimate anticipation. Though it’s an odd pairing on paper, the actual outcome is not odd at all. Madlib provides Gibbs with classic styled hip-hop beats and Gibbs gives the listener authentic gangster bars that harken back to the original soul of hardcore rap music. On lead single Thuggin, released off their similarly-titled Thuggin EP, Gibbs continues to deliver charismatic personality filled verses that include jewels like “why the Feds worried ‘bout me clockin on this corner / when there’s politicians out here getting popped in Arizona.” To those that lost their mind over Watch The Throne’s Otis, Thuggin is truly the simple sample chop based song to get excited over. The duo’s Thuggin EP is available now via Stonesthrow Records.

The beat is sick. Freddie Gibbs just spazzed out on the track and then smoothed it out for the chorus, lol. This had my head bumping the whole time. Banger material right here.
