If you haven’t guessed from the stage name (and the fact that he’s a rapper), Booth newcomer Fred the Gift thinks pretty highly of himself—as far as he’s concerned, there’s no one on his level. On I’m So Fly, though, he makes the decidedly down-to-earth admission that everything he does, he does for the listeners. Over a starkly minimal instrumental by PCP Beats, the Bronx emcee exercises his slow flow, striking an entertaining balance between swag-heavy braggadocio and sincerity, and even taking a moment to compliment his fans on their impeccable taste: “If you’re f*ckin’ with the Gift that means you’re doing something different/ You heard hip-hop and realized there’s something missing.” The arguable highlight, though, is the sample that accompanies the rapper’s hook; taken from Masta Ace’s classic trunk banger, Born to Roll, the “Rollin’ down my windows, yeah I got an air conditioner,” snippet is sure to have old-school fans turning up the volume. I’m So Fly is set for inclusion on a forthcoming project, the details of which are yet unannounced.

The beat is too repetitive for my liking. The sample is a creative idea but not really feeling the lyrics. Decent listen...

"Now that everybody's Fly nobody's down to Earth" DAMN!! This is like my 7th or 8th 2* rating on booth in last two weeks ... hmmmm ... I wonder what 'that1kid13' has to say about it ... :p |

The concept is absolutely NOT interesting at all, the chorus is like ... -.-'
BUT... he still managed to spit some decent lyrics, which makes me think he has potential. The: “If you’re f*ckin’ with the Gift that means you’re doing something different/ You heard hip-hop and realized there’s something missing.” whole line for example is smart, tolerable braggadocio. He must change the bs chorus and do it like he did at the end with: "I'm in the position to give ya somethin to listen to... jail ain't in the plans but I do it for the prisoners... visitor" THAT was HOT and should be the CHORUS! |

I love when these guys think so highly of themselves and they just end up diving head first into an empty pool....their failure puts a big smile on my face...i mean come on man, with a name like "the gift" i expected something way better then this...sample was decent thats about it...i'm going to re-wrap this "gift" and pass it on to someone else

I like the production from PCP Beats (bass-conscious producer).
Overall, it's not bad. Give it time son, give it time. I'm going to put this one back in the oven. 2.5 Stars |

While the production and the sample stand out the most here, Fred doesn't come up short on the lyrical tip. As several of our astute members have pointed out, he does have some real nice lines. His delivery could have used some more energy, but for an unsigned up-n-comer this is more than enough to warrant a second feature at the Booth.

You would like it WOW...jk. The sample is slightly hot and his lyrics at times are on point but overall it's not a good first impression for me.

OK, I REALLY wanted to hate this song due to the overuse of overused subjects (and simply b/c of the title), but the truth is it wasn't bad. I could rotate this, but the sample really makes the track. When he came out the gate it kinda sounded like an LL flow to me. The production is pretty cool and his verses weren't bad.
