Frank Ocean - Pyramids
Artist: Frank Ocean
Producer: Frank Ocean
Album: Channel Orange
Label: Def Jam
UPDATE: Hit “Watch Now” for the brand new Pyramids music video. NSFW warning.
Damn Frank Ocean works fast. Just a few hours after announcing that his Def Jam debut album would be titled Channel Orange, the groundbreaking producer and singer drops off some brand new music with Pyramids. A ten minute long, sprawling affair produced by Ocean himself, Pyramids is a hazy and ambient cut that manages to weave in soaring guitars and ‘90s funk synths by the time it’s finished. On the mic we get some more of Ocean’s trademark understated vocals as the Odd Future member lays down the tale of a love lost into the throes of a strip club, a strip club called Pyramid. (Or at least that’s my interpretation, frankly it’s going to take some work to figure this one out.) Considering Ocean’s obvious work ethic and a July 17 release date for his Channel Orange album I think we can expect more new music soon. In the meantime, enjoy decoding this one.

Ever heard the expression "less is more"? Um, yeah, that could easily be applied here. Frank is mad talented and has a bright bright future ahead of him, but this is a little too much for me.

Agree wit Z, sometimes less is more, but I think the length works well with this song

I like the backwards playing beat on the production. This sounds pretty cool as a whole. Frank Ocean sounds good...

It's rare that I have a 10-minute track on repeat, this is a gem. Second half knocks hard, they should send it to radio.

conceptually nice, but could have easily been a 4 min track and nothing would have been lost

Frank Ocean is a genius! I'm glad this song isn't 4minutes long. "Less is more" isn't the case here. It shows that he cares less about radio airtime and the quality of his music. This song has been on replay for the past two days! Keep it up!

Amazing! It takes a few spins to get into, but overall solid track. This is very original and sounds like nothing on the radio. Who could create a 10-minute track that is cohesive in today's day and age?

This is a great song, but if it was only a bit shorter, I would have awarded it with 5 stars.

the first half is ok.. but the second half is where it hits.
It feels like he was throwing every instrument he could find on the song and then spent a full minute leaving you hanging as you wait for the guitars to open up and rock but nothing happens. I can't tell if that was perfect for leaving listeners wanting more or if i was just left disappointed. overall this is very good.. I like when the artist is not afraid to take the risk of being original instead of going with the flow. |

Despite the length of the song, its something that has o be repeated....More than once The classic, and modern day Cleopatra and their love affair.
