Want to get intimately familiar with the biggest borough in hip-hop, but don’t have the time or money to book a flight to N.Y.C.? Luckily for you, local emcee Frank B.‘s taking all who will listen on a guided tour of his home streets on his latest single, The Other Side of Brooklyn. Originally included on DJBooth-sponsored compilation mixtape Brooklyn’s Finest, the track finds Australian producer M-Phazes serving up an appropriately retro-informed East Coast beat (complete with a sampled hook by DJ Dutchmaster, who grabs vocal snippets from a variety of Brooklyn classics) as Frank looks back on the formative years he spent in BK’s lesser-known neighborhoods “I’m talkin’ Mill Basin, down to Bentonhearst, Sheepshead, Park Slope, don’t matter what I mention first.” As well as being featured on Brooklyn’s Finest, Other Side is available now for purchase on iTunes. It will also be included on the emcee’s punnily-named forthcoming album, Just Being Frank, which is set to hit stores and online retailers “soon.”

If this is what the newest wave of talent from BK sounds like ... mark me down as a fan. I like the realness in his lyrics and his clear devotion to being himself. This isn't the case of a white rapper from BK trying to emulate the artists he grew up listening to from his borough. Good stuff.

This beat is dope, it sounds like something Dr. Dre would make. Frank B went hard! It's crazy how much good music Brooklyn has inspired.

As the track progressed, I got a little bored as it went along.

Quality hip-hop. I've got nothing but respect for this cut, but I have to agree with The 149th, it just didn't grab me. Maybe a little more energy on the lyrics? I don't know what it's missing, but it's missing that extra something that would truly make it dope.

Frank kicks good rhymes over a laid-back Dr. Dre sounding beat, complete with those trademark chorus cuts that one can not have enough in life. But the lack of energy in the production during verses renders the song dull.

Frank B. obviously draws influences from BK's legends (if N.O.E., Angelous, or Stanza tried this style, y'all'd be thinking it was the first single from Blueprint 4).

M-Phazes-Obvious Dr. Dre influence here (Surprised nobody noticed this)

Brooklyn has a rich past...and if Frank B.'s a good indicator, a bright future! (I'm just extra inspired by seeing Jay-Z break ground for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn-future home of the Nets!)

I have to give this 2 Stars. Nice contribution from Dutchmaster, but Frank just leaves to much to be desired. As Burmy points out, the Dr. Dre influence is evident. Only problem is that Beats by Dre go HARD. This doesn't.
