In recent years, part of hip-hop’s appeal has been its ever-changing reality. Party songs regularly mesh with conscientious, worldly rap to create a genre that can’t be singularly defined. Thus, an eclectic new group seeks to carve out its own niche by combining classical music, hip-hop, and progressive rock. The Flobots, hailing from Denver, Colorado, mix together this curious blend on their new single, Rise. A solid drum pattern backs California-style guitar wailings as the group eagerly looks forward to a new era in the world, one full of positivism and opportunity. The self-produced track can be found on their recently-released album, Fight with Tools, which dropped on May 20. Look for these newcomers to gain support from the underground scene and maybe even Rise to the top.
These cats are big on itunes. They get good reviews. I can't find myself connecting with this first cats voice, dispite him being lyricly on point. I don't know if I really like the rock mix here. Alil too much rock in this one 4 me. I like the message. Not bad.
These guys are pretty creative, and if anyone knows my ratings, I'm always open minded with new styles and different directions. I was really feeling Handlebars, and its cool that they handle their own production. So big ups to them on that, this song is overall a pretty good track. Kind of remind me of Gym Class Heroes in a way, but this group has potential.
I've been hearing about these cats for a little while, but never took the time to check em out. I too do see them high on the charts in Itunes pretty frequently. I am always a musical optimist. This won't become my favorite, possibly do to the tempo and cadence of the flow of the lyrics on here, but it's a decent joint. I'll look out for some more stuff from them. They remind me of a legendary local hip hop band up here in Minnesota named Hieruspecs. I'll throw it in rotation. The comments so far have been pretty integrity based. I hope I don't see any ignorant comments about this song just because it's different. If you don't like the joint, explain real reasoning...not just the fact that "hood cats can't get with this" or something idiotically cliché and stereotypical like that.
This is really different...never thought hip hop could evolve like this! it's a combination of rap and rock, 2 very different types of music...the chorus is a bit repetitive but the verses are great. The music is just super and it's what makes this song almost a banger 3,5
Jes, I agree the message is powerful. It even feels powerful because of the musical arrangement and chords. I agree with Macli that the emcee doesn't "do it for me", but overall the product is entertaining. Don't sleep on this group...
