With R.O.O.T.S. lead single Right Round, Flo Rida reworked Dead or Alive’s You Spin Me Round into a strip club anthem—a concept that, while ridiculous on paper, resulted in one of ‘09’s biggest hits to date. After hearing his latest single selection, all I can say is that Flo’s outdone himself.  Remember I’m Blue, the ‘99 hit that was ultra-catchy way back when, but now exists as nothing but a slightly irritating memory?  Well, prepare to hear that “Da ba dee, da ba die” chorus about a thousand more times—on Sugar, the emcee teams up with fellow Floridian DJ Montay and Surveillance singer Wynter Gordon to bring one-hit-wonder Eiffel 65’s one hit into the 21st century.  Flo’s flow is tight and propulsive as he pays tribute to a woman whose kisses are sweet as candy, but it’s the chorus that will have this record on repeat in listeners’ heads (whether they like it or not).  Easily as addictive as the titular substance, Sugar is sure to have R.O.O.T.S. flying off record store shelves on the 31st.

It can be argued that Flo Rida's a one-dimensional artist who just makes records for the radio and ring tones, but what really sets him apart is that he takes risks too. I never really caught onto "Right Round" but I'm liking this one. It would be crazy if he breaks the download record again with this track. Isn't it suppose to be his third single?

I love what Flo Rida is doing here. This song is pretty catchy. He is really turning these old joints into some tight club songs. I love Flo Rida's style and I definitely view him as more than a one-hit wonder. Good production on here.

heh. i think if your gonna sample off a song like that, u really gotta live up 2 it, and i dont think he did. i mean the song doesnt SUCK, but i think the sample could've been better handled by FR.

Should get radio play but the song is pretty weak. I feel like these "re-workings" are less an expression of Flo Rida's talent but rather his lack of creativity. This is now his second single that succeeds solely off it's sample. It's in rotation but, as someone who bought Mail On Sunday, I will not be purchasing R.O.O.T.S.

i agree with DJ J, Flo-Rida is takin past hits which he (obviously) knows his listeners can easily digest and guarantees himself a commercial HIT. Put his signature flow on it, add sum kick-ass production and VOILA!

If you asked me a few months ago if I'd ever consider one of Flo Rida's songs classic, I would have thrown something at you... The truth is that dude is growin on me.

This producer just took a completely annoying song and converted it into a 21st century club banger that really keeps you noddin your head. The hook is super catchy and WILL make this track a huge success. Now, about Flo Rida: that name is not just a clever, catchy idea. Dude can ride a beat for real. I always thought that all of his songs were annoying, but I could never deny that the man has a nice flow. He may not have the most original lyrics, but he does a great job changing up his generally quick-paced to make his verses interesting... Very Nice!

The sample is a great idea and the production is insane. DJ Montay does great on the beat and the hook is dope and catchy! Flo Rida's verses are solid and this will be a club hit! Banger!

i swear to god that i can't get enough of this 80's-90's recycling in the chorus.
its the @*#$!, and can save any song from any bad vocals...and Flo Rida
everyone concentrates on "hey! damn! i know that from another song!" instead of listening to the actual integrity of the song
don't get me wrong, Flo is straight, its just one of those tight-ass songs that is tight for the strange, awesome, wrong reasons

Well... he's a Rida indeed! Can't touch his flow and how many risks he takes as pointed out. But at the same time, how much merit is there for Flo Rida after samplin hits over hits?
what sets him apart from other rap entertainers is that he's NOT one hit wonder, he has many already.

The sample in the middle of the track is just menacing, as is the beat.... he's churning out hits after hits .... I found nothing wrong with it and feel that it was an out-and-out entertaining song... but this aint toppin 'Right Round' for me ....

yo this man can't be touched right now. you have all these rappers out here who are playing it safe when it comes to makin an old sound their own. Flo Rida has completely mastered this concept and for that is why i believe that he's one of the heavy hitters in the game today. Love this song

florida is defffinetly on top, i wouldnt be surprised if you got dudes tryna do the same exact thing as him, this is a classic, this is a hit! so much flava, so much creativity, he is doin him, anything under a 4 rating is wrong, flo-rida aint out there claimin he the best rapper, he makes songs that the club can rock to, hip hop comes in all different shapes and forms so for jaypee to say florida is hurtin hiphop, is an ignorant statement... whats hurtin hiphop is people like you sayin hiphop is dyin or hurtin, if you gonna keep sayin things like that, it will brainwash people into beleiving it.

like soulja boy said... nas makin a track sayin hip hop is dead is what started this whole "hip hop is dead" "this aritst is hurting hip hop" hip hop is deffinetly still alive, and these artist are keeping it alive, if it wasnt for these artist that raw style hip hop would never ever get heard cuz its lyrical but not appealing to other crowds. the area where hip hop is hurting is in creativity, like this autotune garbage... if jus tpain stuck to it it would be cool... but EVERYBODY does it... so next time you wana say someone is hurting hip hop point ur finger at lil wayne and them for biting and wearing out the use of it

I could have used a little more of the sample, but overall it was great. He has really stepped up since his last album. I know Low was a huge hit for him, but T-Pain ruined that song, and even though it was a club jam, the tempo was too slow. This song and Right Round have much better production, and his flow helps to keep the eneregy up, instead of killing it of. 4.5 stars.

I really like what he's doing with this quasi-sampling, even though some people consider it stealing the original song's creativity. I used to write Flow Rida off as a club/ringtone wannabe rapper, but he is really impressing me with these last two singles, and especially with this one. I can already hear it being played at apt. parties.

Flo Rida is the new Nelly. Don't hate on him for recycling older hit songs - almost every GOOD movie you see these days is a recycled (or completely redone) version of something before it. I don't care for this poppy rap, but it catchy and ready for radio success.

OMG Blue by the Eiffel 65...I'm Italian and I'm kinda proud of this Italian techno song which became famous all over the world :) this track is pretty, reminds me of Live Your Life coz they also used a dance sample in the beginning there. The hook isn't that good but the song itself has much energy! Ps: I got used to Flo Rida's flow, but some time ago I didn't stand him
