If you know anything about Flipsyde, you know that the Oakland trio aren’t shy about their musical attempts to uplift the people and spark some real revolution. So imagine my surprise when they chose to cover Yung Joc’s It’s Goin’ Down for their The DJBooth debut (also a world premiere!). Actually, Flip’s Down couldn’t be less like Joc’s – instead of a thirst for trips to the mall and expensive cars, Piper (emcee), Steve Knight (vocals/guitar) and Dave Lopez (lead guitar) are only thirsty to live life to the fullest; although they do share an appreciation of beautiful women. Notably, Kardinal Offishall handles production duties, helping to put together a beat that balances summertime fun with a darker, more serious core, all set off my Knight’s raspy vocals on the hook: “Been in the dark so long but now I’m alright.” Throw in Piper’s strong rhymes and some of that aforementioned slinky guitar work from Lopez and you’ve got the perfect way to get the people released for Flipsyde’s IGNITE mixtape (a part of their F.I.G.H.T. mixtape series), set to drop via The DJBooth tomorrow, Tuesday, January 24. Come on, you knew it was…wait for it…goin’ down.

Still one of the best music groups to come out of the San Francisco Bay Area's city of Oakland in years. Great cover! Griity vocals from Steve, sweet guitar from this Lopez fellow and Piper's rhythmical sense of story telling. High five Doggies!

Damn, I'm not feeling this at all. I can't even finish this track to the end. This is like corny rap right here. The beat is OK at best, but the voices are bad on the chorus and the rapping is elementary...

Sorry The_Vuitton_Don ... Just doesn't sound "right" to me... Music is subjective to whose listening... if it wasn't then we'd all like the same things and there would be no need to rate... Those are not my Top artists in my list, but it's just who I'm listening to right now. Drake is better than this and so is Lil wayne... LOL

Blaze you are 100% right about music being subjective. But when you dislike a song, at least rate it poorly for a concrete reason. And saying these lyrics are elementary, when songs by oh so many mainstream artists such as the crew you listen to, make songs that say absolutely nothing, I find it hard to take your rating seriously. Doesn't feel "right" to me....
