F.a.T (Jake Jansen) - Hungry [Premiere]
Artist: F.a.T (Jake Jansen)
Producer: Mr. J
Album: Promo Single
Label: War Lab Records
If you’re trying to make it in the hip-hop game, a healthy hunger for success is necessary, but when that hunger borders on gluttony, then you have F.a.T (pun intended). With his first Booth feature, Hungry, the Virginia native shows us that he’s not going to spoil his appetite with anything less than the number-one spot. Producer Mr. J provides a relatively solemn beat over which F.a.T handles his business admirably, and by the time the end of the third verse arrives, he doesn’t have any of us doubting just how far his hunger is going to take him. F.a.T seems to rely more on forcefulness than innovation here, but his style is plenty engaging enough to get our attention and keep it. An EP or full-length album from F.a.T has yet to be announced, but expect to hear much more from the emcee in the coming weeks.

production completely stole the show. the minimalist piano-backed beat left most of the focus on his flow, which doesn't completely disappoint.
Again, Mr. J did a great job with the production, and everything else seemed to hit the mark as well. Not a perfect song that I will find myself listening to ever and over again, but he definitely earned my respect. |

I agree with djpopper on this one. The production on here is top-notch; I'm a sucker for minimalist backdrops.
However, F.a.T. definitely gives a attention-worthy performance and should definitely receive acknowledgment for it. I'll throw this a 3.5 leaning towards 4. That puts it at banger status. Nicely done Jake. |

The kid can definitely spit. I love his flow and wordplay. Has a real hip-hop feel to it and the hook has a lot to do with that obviously.
A solid first showing for F.a.T. in the booth. Hopefully this will open him up to some more ears and we can hear a couple more tracks from his arsenal. I would like to hear him another track just to see if he can keep the same type of atmosphere that he has on "Hungry." Because if he does big things can happen for him. |

way to go with the vocab being displayed here by fat. there real solid and show the caliber this artist has. his flow is real enjoyable on this track aswell it sounds like hes real focus and having fun with some of the punchlines thats good too hear but its still missing that X factor though over all real hip-hop so much appreaciation! 4 spins guys really listen too this guy especially towards the end and pay attention too those lines those alone deserve a banger |

I like this. The piano in the production is what steals the show, in my opinion.
I gotta say, F.a.T. can spit. He kept my attention the entire time and I really enjoyed when the beat stopped near the end of the song and F.a.T. just dropped line after line. This kid has a bright future ahead of him if he can keep up what he is currently doing. Deserves a solid 4 stars. |

The piano is very 36th Chamber-esque to me.
Hehe, the hook is on fire. Such a good counterpart to the face-paced, blazing delivery of Jansen. He pays so much attention to the right pause, the right stress, and how much to tweak in between. I'll tell you, this guy is hungry for sure. You can feel the hunger from his passionate, almost furious approach to each line. Biting, spitting, really challenging the mic and himself and match his effort to equally fantastic production. A well-trained student of the art of hip-hop indeed. Can't wait for more. |

Production is simple...and sometimes simple is better as it showcases Jake's skillz on the mic. He can definately spit and he even kinda reminds me of K.Sparks...they seem to have a similiar sound and delivery. The hook was decent too with the old school hip hop sound. Nothing special just a solid hip hop track.

This track is for the streets, just not for my headphones...too boring, although lyrically potent.

Well played F.a.T. and Mr. J. Reminds me of the Rhymefest's recent blog about DJ's setting up the Rapper. The beat set's up the spotlight on F.a.T. and it's impossible to shy away. Kudos for a great track.

Call him what you want - F.a.T or Jake - the bottom line is that this song title couldn't better capture the message I got out of his artistry. He is a little rough around the edges, but this is one heck of a introduction to the Booth.

F.a.T has done other tracks with more mass appeal but this joint is certifiably fierce. I kick myself for sliding him this beat every time I listen to it but end up smiling because of how pleased I am that he more than did it justice.

I'm more interested in this production than the rapper in this one. He just can't keep up with this beat. He does well don't get me wrong he just has such a good production backing him. He has a good flow and fair rapping skills, just want a lot from a beat like this.

Is there such a thing as being too much hungry? I don't know, have a little fun with it man! ;) As if you were creating a song that people are supposed to enjoy.
The flow reminds me of K. Sparks, but the tone is definitely distinctive. It got even better at the last verse, nice! We have a good rapper here, I just want to hear more interesting topics from him. That piano is so subtle and yet mesmerizing. |

Something about this just doesn't work for me. The piano loop and sampled chorus is too repetitive/simple for my liking.
