Fashawn may still be waiting for his solo debut, the autobiographical Boy Meets World LP, to receive a release date from the label brass (originally scheduled to drop in summer ‘09, it’s been pushed back to October 20th), but the CA buzzmaker’s not off his grind—in the meantime, he’s been chilling with iconic beatsmith The Alchemist, cooking up The Antidote to lousy-hip-hop malaise.  On newly-released lead single Fash Plays It Cool, the artist does just as the title says, spitting chilled-out lyrical fire over Alc’s propulsively spacey blend of head-bobbing percussion and gauzy synth burbles.  The agile, expressionistic braggadocio the emcee delivers here is about as far as you could get from his tightly-written narrative on the previously-featured Life As A Shorty, but just as compelling—peppered with vivid imagery and nostalgic asides, Fashawn’s “miscellaneous raps” blend beautifully with the dreamy beat, and the end result has a hypnotic energy that’s hard to resist.  Keep it locked to the Booth for release info on Boy Meets World and an exclusive interview with Fashawn.

If I had a T-Mobile Fav Five made up of only West Coast artists, Fashawn would be in there. I always love to hear artists from opposite coasts collaborate (yes, I know Alchemist is originally from LA).

As I do so often, I was really feelin the spacey production from Alchemist. The meloncholy and drowzy horns are killer, and Fashawn sounds right at home over it. Not to mention the wordplay is pretty sick too. Not quite a banger, but way worth rotation.

Its straight ... This song is kinda boring/bland on the production side. Fashawn marks his presence tho spittin' some good bars on this. I can respect this track but it wasn't very good in my opinion ... 2.5
