It can often be difficult to separate the artist from their art, but on Fantasia’s new single The Thrill is Gone, her first DJBooth feature since February’s Even Angels, it’s nearly impossible. In light of the former American Idol’s recent apparent suicide attempt, coming after an alleged relationship with a married man fell apart, it’s hard not to listen to The Thrill is Gone as the story of that doomed relationship. “I’m not saying you’re to blame / I know I’m not your girl, I know you’re not my man / but something’s wrong I can’t explain,” sings the distinctly voiced crooner in her trademark rasp as some lush, retro-influenced Malay & KP production floats in the background. No stranger to confessional records himself, Cee-Lo Green also hops on for a heavily stylized, unshakably cool guest verse. Whether The Thrill is Gone is art imitating life, or vice-versa, there’s no debating that it’s art. Hopefully Fantasia can now put her troubles behind her and fully concentrate on her upcoming album, Back to Me, due out August 24.

This is a real good look for Fantasia. The quality credibility that guest Cee-Lo and KP and Malay bring to the table prove that Fantasia's talents are worth working with (something some folks have questioned in the past).
If her entire new album sounds like "The Thrill is Gone," it should be an enjoyable and well-received listen.

Nice song and i like Cee-Lo on here. I don't wanna compare but "Even Angels" is a classic and this doesn't really come close to matching it. But it was a solid effort by Fantasia all the same.

Never really listen that much to Fantasia's music but this is cool song here. Cee always sounds good as a guest and the production really went well the Fantasia's vocals and the lyrics to the song. Speaking of Fantasia's vocals, she's a hell of a singer.

havent heard any fantasia before and this doesnt blow me away. cee-lo on the other hand is fast becoming a favourite of mine.

This song is amazing; I could listen to Fantasia all day. I didn’t think much of Cee-lo’s addition; maybe it would have been better without him.

Classic track!!....The drums go hard!...When Mad Violinist twitted this and I heard it, I knew that was him on those live strings. This album should be very interesting.
