Fabolous - Lights Out (I Don't See Nobody)
Producer: Lex Luger
Album: There is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music EP
Label: Def Jam/IDJMG
While Fabolous’ last album Loso’s Way received mixed reviews, Loso’s just-released mixtape There Is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service was widely hailed as a killer, so the man decided to pull a Drake and re-release the project as an EP, now called There is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music, complete with a handful of new joints. The first of the brand new batch is Lights Out (I Don’t See Nobody), a banger that will definitely get you hyped in your car or the club. Produced by Lex Luger, whose beats are all starting to sound the same to me (see Blowin’ Money Fast), Lights Out frankly doesn’t find Loso at his best lyrically. While Fab gets in a few jabs, cheesy lines like “You couldn’t find me in the day time with a flashlight” would only be clever coming from a boy band like B5, not the best punchline rapper in the game. Still, with a speaker-blowing beat and a well-placed Jay-Z sample, I’m sure I will be hearing this song bumping in systems everywhere well after The Grieving Music drops on August 24.

I don't know about you (yes, you the Booth member reading my comments), but I like when Fabolous raps slowly over R&B-pop production alongside a female singer. That just works (ask radio programmers from the past decade).
This "act all hard" sound he's coming with here is sorta uncomfortable. Again, just me. Could be wrong, but usually I am not. |

I guess everyone is going for the "Hard N The Paint" sound. Though it might of worked for Ross, it didn't fit Fab that well. Lyrically he came weak as well, nothing like the mixtape.

the prob w/this song is the production. normally, Loso sounds good wen he goes hard, but here the production dont match his style. Loso had a hard time rhymin with this beat so it diminished his potential cuz he had to make the lyrics really basic. now u have a beat that dont match the rappers style and hes forced to simplify his lyrics in an attempt to make it mesh. overall, its not bad, but u can tell Fab isnt his usual self here.
@Z-its not that he doesnt go hard, its jus that he selected a bad beat to use. the beat is too simple and Loso's punchline game is too complex. so, it dont fit. |

Lol, come to think of it, B5 DID use that line on "U Got Me", LMFAO. This production is bananas, and though this isn't the most lyrical joint ever, it's hella catchy.

Fab can go much harder than this, he was not on point here.
Side Note- There’s no doubt The Funeral Service was an amazing mixtape, but why release it as an EP? This @*#$! is just trying to get more money. |

"I Don't See Nobody"...listening to this to the end. Its not the Fab that I normally enjoy listening to AT ALL. The sample is semi clever beacause of what Jay is saying there but the quality of the sample is very lacking too, even for a mixtape installment. Not impressed at all.

No Competition 2 was a killer mixtape, pun intended, and this wouldn't have made the cut the first time around. Still, Loso manages to get some lines in, but even lyrically he's not at his greatest. This is in the bottom third of Fab's catalog.

This is a mixtape cut. Nothing more, nothing less. Still, I can't rate this any higher than a 2.

The production and sample bumps, automatically placing the track in rotation. Fab does nothing on the mic to push it to banger status, but his verses are what you would expect.

The beat is definitely bangin, but I don't know about this sound with Fabolous. I could see someone more like Rick Ross on this track from the production. Lyrically he's not at his best, but it is pretty catchy. It's in rotation for me.

It's funny. I was looking for a specific kind of song and I just saw Fab's name and hit up this song. This is definitely not what I expect or WANT from Fab. He's in the Travie McCoy, T-Pain genre, not the Weezy, Jay-Z, Eminem genre. Lights out on this song...

"It's rocking like a crack house" GTFOH saying Fabs lyrics weren't on point. If anything the hook was weak. Still a car and club banger
