Estelle - International
Artist: Estelle
Featuring: Chris Brown , Trey Songz
Producer: David Banner
Album: All of Me
Label: Home School/Atlantic
While men have largely struggled to make the transition from U.K. sensations to successful American imports, the same hasn’t held true for British females. In fact, from Adele to Estelle, women raised on the other side of the Atlantic seem to be all the rage. Maybe it’s simply because there’s just something alluring about an International woman. The aforementioned Estelle recruits none other than David Banner for her new single, and Banner responds by giving the crooner a “tougher than you’re usual Estelle” beat. That kind of banging is familiar territory to guest stars Trey Songz and Chris Brown, who continue to flip between their rap and R&B leanings with ease. Delivering an even more impressive performance is the headliner, who proves she can go as hard as the big boys with sexy and strong vocals that demand to be taken seriously. With an offering like International there’s no telling what Estelle’s All of Me album will sound like when it finally drops - we’ll just have to wait until February 28 to find out. In the meantime, bust out those passports and press play…

I was really excited to hear a new Estelle track, but I really wasn't too impressed with this one. I can definitely seeing this on mainstream radio though. Is Trey rapping on this? When will R&B stars stick to their lane????

I thought about what this one would sound like before I pressed play. Turns out its exactly what I thought it would be, no more no less. Kudos to Estelle for trying her hand at a beasting Banner production.

I actually like how Estelle played with the beat with her accent. Trey Songz however need to keep his day job.

I wasn't expecting this collaboration, but this was pretty tight. I like the bassline in the beat by David Banner and Estelle sounds fresh on here. Breezy and Songz are really good features. Banger Music!

Not really feelin' it. Estelle, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, & David Banner are all on another level for me and they didn't quite deliver on this one.

I expected a lot from this track but considering the dipping and switching of genres by these artists lately I have to say it is either hit or miss.
Now, from here Estelle holds fire in her voice and aggression in this but the beat doesn't do her justice. Breezy's beat and flow is mediocre. Songz's contribution is mild but is not groundbreaking. I could easily give this a pass but to me is just as listenable. 2 spins. |
