Can you really tell your own life story without taking it back to the folks who made that life possible? Booth newcomer Esinchill doesn’t think so. Thus, the East Oakland, California emcee’s introduction to Booth readers revolves around the decisions and experiences of his father. Leaked cut Daddy Was A Sailor Man plays out a little like Back to the Future in reverse: rather than Esinchill hopping into Christopher Lloyd’s DeLorean to meet a teenage version of his old man, a 17-year-old version of his father comes to him in a dream, seeking guidance from his (possible) son-to-be. The concept sounds a little odd on paper, but rest assured it makes perfect sense in practice. Over Jake One‘s reflective, slightly eerie instrumental, the emcee proves his mettle as a storyteller, crafting a concept cut as poignant as it is thought-provoking. If you like what you’re hearing, you can find more new tunes from this promising up-and-comer on digital-only project Vigilante, released this past October.

First of all, you can never (ever) go wrong with a Jake One beat. Second, if you are tired of mediocre concept records that aim to please but simply let down than you need to listen to this new Esinchill joint all the way through. Great story here.

Damnit Z, you took my openly line. Anyway, Jake One's one of the most consistently fresh producers in the game, and Esinchill does the beat justice with a strong flow.

I guess my 1st rating didn't take.

I’ve got to be honest the story didn’t even matter. The production is what got my attention – (like a back handed slap across the face). You feel me?
