Out of Business since ‘99, legendary hip-hop duo EPMD, have returned to record their seventh album.  Though the industry has vastly changed over the last nine years, Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith have one thing to say to the doubters: “We Mean Business.”  On their “comeback single,” the duo requests that their audience Listen Up.  A member of another popular 90’s group, Teddy Riley of Blackstreet, is featured on Listen Up, adding vocoder-laced background vocals and a throwback sound (he was doing “the T-Pain” while T-Pain was still skipping grade school classes).  For those who have impatiently waited for We Mean Business, you gots to chill (sorry, couldn’t resist); once you get your copy on December 9, you’ll find that it was well worth the wait.

This song first appeared on the Independent Chart on November 3, 2008

It's nice to know Teddy Riley is still around. EMPD is okay. I was bobbing my head a little bit, but I wasn't really moved a whole bunch by this joint. IDK...maybe it's because I've never really listened to their music. Teddy did his thing though. The mix on this sounds really muffled as well. I'll throw it in rotation for now, but it may have to grow on me.

Is Def Squad a fake Jam? This song is old school, but it brings the contemporary. it's just GOOD music, straight up. the older guys know how to perform and bring it without putting to much on a song, like some new guys out right now.

Oh and Tigger, Def Squad is a division of Def Jam. Once a super group of Eric Sermon, Redman, and Keith Murry.

Take note wannabes: it's not that hard to make good hip hop music. It takes a banging/soulful beat, confident flows, catchy delivery and decent lyrics… you may add other features as you like, but don’t come without these listed!Didn’t know the duo, but they sure know hip hop.

This was nice. Hip-hop, although I don't really know these guys. Wish I did though.

Sounds like classic EPMD for what it's worth. But has their time passed. We know Teddy Riley's has.

They're back! YESSSSSSS. I'm glad they didn't change that funk-laden sound. Hip Hop needs it right now.
