Honestly, the first time I heard Eminem’s new leak No Love, I thought it was a joke. Can you blame me? For some reason usually on-point producer Just Blaze chose to make Haddaway’s 1993 dance hit What Is Love, best known as the song from SNL’s Night at the Roxbury skits, the centerpiece of his beat. Sadly, it’s a mistake from which the track never recovers (pun intended), even with Lil Wayne returning the favor from Drop the World and delivering one of his best verses in a minute. I wish I could say Just Blaze is the only one at fault here, but while Slim Shady drops decent (for him) verses, his vocal work on the chorus is almost unlistenable. Not Afraid was dope, what happened here? But maybe I’m alone on this one. Maybe the Booth will help me hear the hidden genius that I’m so obviously missing. (I doubt it, but maybe.) Go ahead guys, try to convince me. In the meantime, let’s hope this isn’t indicative of the quality of Em’s new album Recovery, due out June 22.

I fail to see how this is terrible. Weezy's verse is an instant classic. Both artist are absolutely irate at the world right now which makes this track just bleed with energy.
The usage of "What is Love" works for me. It adds a uniquiness that most songs lack. Em's chorus is not THAT bad. After a couple of listens I can't image how the chorus could have been done better and still fit the song. Maybe I rated too high, but its just my opinion and I guess Im entitled to it right? |

Great song. Lil wayne gave a decent verse but Em goes off.
The album is a big improvement from Relapse and thats saying something since Relapse was still good quality music. |

Haha. AWESOME SAMPLE. The beat is slow at first, but it picks up. Wayne's first was alright, better than most. Eminem's hook was decent, but doesn't sound that good. Eminem's verse was what I expected to hear. This might grow on me.

As someone who was tempted into listening to the full "Recovery" leak today, I can honestly say this is the worst song on the album next to WTP (White Trash Party). "Recovery" is an extremely solid album - definitely Em's best since Eminem Show.
As for this song, I enjoy the beat and verses but Em's chorus is shit. Still, it's a solid track. Just not up to the potential of the artists. |

Compared to the recent OompaLoompa sample I'd even call this Roxbury one tasteful, so thats not a track-killer for me.
Weezy's verse is his best in a while while Em's chorus is pretty shameful but a pretty solid verse sorta makes up for it. Not sure how to feel about this |

Love the production...it reminds me of a Linkin Park song for some reason lol...Wayne came through with a solid verse and Em did just ENOUGH to let everyone know that this is HIS song and not Wayne's...banger

This song makes me so sick. What the @*#$! was the point of lil waynes verse just a bunch of punchlines that at the end did not mean anything. Anybody can make those rhymes. @*#$! terrible. Ems was almost as bad. Wtf happened to a hip hop artist. Just Blaze goes pop and not well. Just awful.

i disagree Nathan, the sample actually fits in perfectly with Em's chorus and it creates a different vibe to the whole song. Same thing as not afraid, Em showcases his singing skills for the chorus, although it is bad, but its not the worse. It grows, and im feeling it. ALSO, hate to admit it but weezy drops a nasty verse here. This is another near classic from Em. I can't wait for Recovery.

This track is really nice. They use the sample really well and I really like the hook. Also, the verses are insane. It took me about 3 listens to really like the hook. Still, this is classic if you ask me. Having said that, I'm still not sure if it is in the top 5 songs on Recovery. Lots of great songs. I'm quite satisfied with this effort from Eminem. Lyrical genius.

Honestly, people look at the sample from Haddaway's 1993 "What Is Love" and say "What the @*#$! is this?" People automatically listen to the beat and forget about the verses from the MC. Maybe it's due to the lack of meaningful ideas from other rappers, who use the urban dictionary as a main source to dumb down their lyrics, but that shouldn't be the case with this. This song delivers! Weezy delivers and comes hard for a solid minute. "These ni@@as know i lay em down, make your bed, bitches try to kick me while I'm down, I'll break your leg," On the other hand, Eminem annoys me a little with his singing vocals, but he still manages to drop a hot verse and you gotta love Em for it. "Get these wack cocksuckers off stage! Where the @*#$! is Kanye when you need Em. Snatch the mic from them!" This is a Banger.

wow Nathan you are way off. Sure, I thought it was a joke too once it started, but then Just Blaze made the beat hard, and Weezy and Em spit that fire. If anyone could pull it off, it was these guys, and they did. Classic ish here.

I have to admit my bias, as What Is Love was one of my favs back as a kid. But it begged to be corny, and it totally isn't.

This sample was GENIUS, it doesn't ruin the song for me, it IMPROVES it. Wayne MURDERED this, seriously. If he wasn't in jail, I would like for this to be a single.

How is this in any way not a good song? Its awesome, Lil Wayne went hard, but Em rippped this track through and through! Although I agree the beat could have been tweaked a little more, the sample is dope! Also, i think Recovery is Em's best album since The Eminem Show. Definitely picking it up on June 22!

Nathan S. with all respect you need to have your reviewing of songs revoked. I've seen you give better reviews to Soulja Boy tracks like wtf? This song is straight ill and if you don't see that, you aren't a good enough hip hop fan to review good music

My only complaint about this song is that their is to much singer from two guys who defiantly cant sing. The production from Just Blaze is dope. Both Em & Weezy were solid, though I dont think ive ever heard the featured artist featured so much on a track by Em. good album track, though it isnt good enough to warrant being a single

wow nathan is certainly copping a lot of heat for his review. while i dont necessarily agree with his views on this song- i still have a lot of respect for him as a music reviewer, he gets it right the majority of the time so dont hate on him, he's just doing his job.
this is certainly no 'not afraid' but it still oozes feeling and lyrical genius. weezy drops his best verse for a while i reckon and em did what he has been forever- rapping the best he can. the singing was annoying but overall easily bearable. the sample doesnt do much right or wrong for me. |

Best Weezy verse in a minute! I'm always skeptical of him, but that was dope...
Em's flow was unheard of! I can't describe what he just got himself into. The production is perfect for him. Lakers in 6 |

This song was okay, but I think that it may be receiving a little too much praise. For starters, Weezy's verse was decent at best, nothing more and nothing less. He started off really boring, but once he sped up everything started to sound a little bit better.
Em's hook was horrible, IMO. Definitely expected better considering the tremendous amount of talent that was on this track. Fortunately, this track keeps itself alive with Em's verse. Sample was unexpected and wasn't really something that I thought was that greatly worked in. All together, very listenable track to say the least. |

This is not a classic but it could have been. If they had have out Eminem on the 1st verse and had somebody that can ride a beat for the other verse.
Eminem was in top form on this Just Blaze beat |

For a song like "No Love" - the combination of a thumping Detroit hard rock percussion in the tempo of a dirty south production backed by pieces of a forgotten dance number of the 1990's - to appear on an album by an artist who is known for his hardcore battle rhymes and ability to play with the Webster by ways of dark humor. Sounds like "one sucker punch to the gonads," quote Steve Carrell, especially when there's a Haddaway single floating in the airwaves, but believe me when I say this: Eminem, Lil' Wayne and Just Blaze have upgraded their scrotums from skin to steel. It's hard hitting in all areas: while the melody handles the struggle and the beat manages the hustle, Carter's opening verse provide the bubble for Matters when it's his turn to rumble on the mic. A lot of fans will question on Blaze's choice sample for "No Love," simply because it's a pop song, but there's so much energy being thrown at you, your ears begin to accept the shots of Just and soon enough, your head will start to rock. Don't deal with it - enjoy it. Already, it's Wammy Radio potential.
If there were a remix to this song, one artist I would want Eminem to look up is Cali's Annimean, representing L.A. His grimey, gritty vocals echo a 90's Fat Joe, who at the time was hungry for attention and showed some promise all in part to Big Pun. I'll leave the chorus to Diamonique. |

I wouldn't cal the sample genius because crime mob used it back in the day and that was tight. The singing by Em throws it off also, he needs to quit it's almost as annoying as his accents.

well i guess its not the worst song i've heard from eminem, but it ranks up there. definitely not a song i will ever have on my ipod bumpin' in the car. the cd has already leaked. track 2 - talkin' to myself is the hottest joint on the album.

yo.. nat, daammmn. listen to that about another hundred times and in a couple of years you'll still be bumpin it. I mean it is wayne and em together after all. We all love wayne and em the most, so when they give us the best they have to offer maybe we sometimes expect too much, but i thought it was great. Eminem's back in a whole new way. It's like he keeps sayin, just erase relapse and refill from your memory banks. He's sober now and ready to take the rap game by storm. Every song he's featured on he makes everyone look stupid and Recovery as a whole is nothing short of classic. Although i will say the album has a little too much about love in it, yet it's still amazing.

JDarms and my man Nathan just must be in bad places right now. To say the hook is horrible is just plain in-factual. You might not personally like it but there is no doubt it works for the song. Like someone else said...after listening a few times..I would know how you would change and still fit the song! Wayne was blazin' and Em was in str8 Beast-Mode. Lyrics was stellar, the beat grew on me after the 2nd or 3rd listen..now it just fades into the back. The sample and hook might be out there but the flows are str8 on this track!

No love is one of the best song on the album .. just wait for the others and you'll see. No love lost.. No love found..!

Love the discussion on this one. And it'd be hypocritical for me to criticize artists without being able to take criticism myself. So have at it. (Although I never stop appreciating the irony of people sending me hate mail complaining that I'm a hater.)
I don't really know what else to say here. I'm obviously in the minority, but I literally can't listen to this without seeing those SNL skits in my head, which completely ruins it for me. And I'm sorry, but no one's convincing me Eminem's singing is anything other than mediocre at best. I'm as big of a Slim Shady fan as there is, which is probably why I recoiled so strongly when I heard this. That's my honest opinion, and you're more than welcome to yours. Respect. And if you really need to get out some anger and bash me some more, in all seriousness, go for it. I'm a big boy, I can take it. |
