Back when NWA dropped Straight Outta Compton, life was a little different. For example, smoking was allowed on airplanes—cigarette smoking, anyways; what Eminem and his legendary musical mentor, Dr. Dre, are doing on Relapse‘s latest official leak was no more legal then than it is now, but two talents of their caliber can be forgiven for rewriting history as they spark one up for Old Time’s Sake. Puffing on the chronic at an an altitude of 4.5 million feet (which converts to… eight million miles?!), Slim and the doctor take turns on the mic. Dre’s classic flow and midtempo, string-driven beat are guaranteed to take longtime fans on a trip down Memory Lane, and Em’s dizzying verses find him going heavy on his trademark shock antics and polysyllabic rhymes, but lighter on that cartoonish accent that earned We Made You and 3 AM a few one and two-star ratings (personally, I’m digging this more than either of those tracks). For the few who haven’t already marked their calendars (or, you know, live under rocks), Relapse is set to split the game wide open May 19th.

Getting my two cents in before this thread gets crazy LOL! I officially felt Em was back once that 3am video dropped over the weekend, but this is just a reassurment. Classic Eminem/Dr. Dre on this track from every single aspect. While I will say this is nothing new from Eminem and that it could have came out 10 years ago and had the same impact, the way this track plays out is simply fire. One of Dre’s hottest beats in a while, and they both ripped it! This will have a huge impact everywhere and only gets me more excited for May 19.

Yes, yes and more yes. This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. It's not the best Em track, granted, but it certainly outshows the previous singles. Strong beat + catchy hook + great rhymes = Classic Em. My faith in Relapse is restored. (And my hope for Detox is getting greater)

not up to the hype. i still havent heard a song from em that lives up to the high expectations i had. he's had soooo many hits in the past. these 3 songs, have been horrible 2 me and this new accent he's rappin with aint helpin and the beat is no where near dre's best. so i know i wont be buying/downloading his album.

What I like about your ratings is your don't give the song a good rating based on just who the artist is. While this is a four for me I don't think this is near what Em is capable of and I too agree the first 3 songs are below my expectations.

OK.. much better than the past 2 that we have heard, however, I really am getting sort of tired of Eminem's voice on these new tracks. I read somewhere that Em is going to use this tone on most if not all of Relapse.. and the album after Relapse (due in ~6months or so?) will be different. I like the more serious Em.

Yeah, his new sound, while it allows him to change up his rhymes, is annoying. The production is hot, but I'm not sure if it is suitable for Em's style. Maybe if the tempo was turned up a notch, it would be a true headbanger. Until then, this is more of a song for Em faithfuls (high ratings and level of satisfaction regardless). Em's starting to remind me of Nas, lyrical sound, but tone-deaf.

Time for DJ Z to weigh in (and yes, I just referred to myself in third person).
First, what is with all the hatred for this man? If you don't like his music, thats fine - plenty of people don't. But there is no need for name calling... DJBooth is not a high school. I like this. Em's rhymes are always on point and Dre's production (which here isn't his best) is still better than most of the competition. This isn't a "single," so I am not holding it to the standard of other "singles." I do, however commend Em's camp for coming with a predetermined string of approved pre-released leaks.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from Em, but that’s the level of excellence he’s displayed his entire career. With that being said; Are you serious? Another one of those wack silly songs? Man…that’s really pushing me bro. Not only am I completely miffed that he hasn’t responded to Rick Ross calling him those names and calling him out, but to not bring any heat in the build up to his return. Dude…to be honest and this is what I told my brother, it feels like he is begging to be liked again. I don’t much care for Jay Z but when HOV does something he just comes out and does it love it or hate it. I feel like there is a whole lot of gimmick floating around this Em camp and it doesn’t make any sense. 50 had Ross dead in the water and he let up on him and went silent. I got a feeling that Em was behind that pulling the strings because he wanted the lane clear for his release. Now you got Ross more confident than ever and calling Em every name in the book. Then I listened to the interview with Angela Lee on Shade 45 and he’s talking about “yeah I would do a track with Lil Wayne” even after Wayne made that song Louisianimal about 50? What in the world is going on?

Eminem, once again fails to impress me. We Made You, very creative and actually enjoyed it, I'd say banger. 3 AM hated it, then liked it, then saw the video and I'd call it garbage, beat was medicore, flow was medicore, so your left with eminem yelling absolutely obsence things about brutally killing people, tried way too hard for "shock factor" in my opinion.
Now this song, beat is ok for a Dre beat, eminems verse is lacking, for once I find an eminem verse semi-boring. Dr. Dre sounds great, I'd prefer only Dre on this, with the beat a lil more bumping and dre on the hook. I'm not saying this song is garbage, but for what it COULD have been, its just in rotation for me. |

Lil eminem discussion. Eminem spurred my interest in rap music, but since I have been deep in it for.... 9 years or so probably, I just don't enjoy his music as much. I completely recognize his talent, originality, and "shock value", but I just don't like him as much as before. I'd say it may be because my musical tastes have changed, before the idea of a obscene eminem song was mesmerizing, but now its lost a lot of its appeal.

Initially the production on here grabs my attention. It def has that classic Dre feel to it. In my opinion its not a song that i hear and say.."man i gotta here that sh*t again!!" But its certainly not a bad song. Far from it. Eminem always comes correct to me. No matter what he does. I usually like all of his stuff. I'm ready for the Relapse to be released. Eminem is here to show people why he's one of the greatest.

I started listening to Hip Hop with Eminem (then I went back in time to do my homework and by 2006 I had listened to all that matter, so don't think less of me guys…;). The most determinant rapper for me after him is Lupe Fiasco. Just like you, I discovered so many good rap music after 9 years that I can’t deal with “Crack a Bottle” and “We made you” anymore. What’s with the accent and high pitched voice in “3am”? It's not that my musical tastes changed though, it's his last material that is weak; it's Eminem that's not bringin any "The Way I Am", "Cleanin out my closet", "Lose Yourself", "Sing for the Moment", "Like Toy Soldiers"... "Stan", "kill you". Damn, "KIM" still shocks me till today! I was very excited when I heard the freestyle “Relapse”, but nothing after that makes me think this album will be great. (I only hope to be pleasantly surprised) |

@frozilla and @FredRico - I too started out with Eminem (go figure lol). For me, though, his original stuff impacted me so much (again, 'Till I Collapse is easily top 3 tracks EVER), that this stuff is tolerable. True, it's not what he should be releasing (4 "silly" tracks consecutively is a bit much, Em), but, we all know he still has "Lose Yourself" in him. He certainly hasn't forgotten how to rap. And who knows what the rest of Relapse will bring? For all we know, he could be saving those Classic tracks for those who have enough faith in him to buy his album. Or, Relapse could be full of "We Made You"'s and "3AM"'s. Either way, my opinion of him hasn't changed. Bottom line: Regrdless of what one's opinion is about Emninem, the undeniable, irrefutible truth is that he is a hip-hop legend. He won't simply lose that status overnight. Not after what he's done, and will do, for hip-hop. |

this is a good track, really has that "eminem show" feel to it. im likin the production and dres lines. eminem is SLOWLY losing the accent, but then again, once you think its gone, it comes right back. the chorus reallt makes me feel like im listenin to a classic eminem song, which is good. After hearing another 5 songs (that got leaked) from Eminem today, Ive come to the conclusion that im not going to buy Relapse. Im still contemplating buying Meth & Reds Blackout 2. @Sommi - Im all for freedom of speech & I dunno what you said to get your comments deleted, but it must of been pretty bad for them to delete your comment. Its fair enough that you dont like Eminem (I personally only like about 5 Em tracks), but you cannot talk down to those who are fans of his. I also tend to agree that some (not all) do follow the main here, but thats what happens in society in general. I recommend you listen to tracks not by Eminem & get into other artists that this site has to offer. |

I'm proud to announce that I recently heard the full Relapse album (I have a connection with MTV) and I assure all of you that it is MUCH stronger than these singles would have you believe. Just wait until you hear "Beautiful", "Insane" and "My Mom"; all classics.
If you want to know where Relapse is placed amongst Eminem's body of work; that my opinion is something like this: Encorce < Slim Shady LP < Relapse < (or equal to) Eminem Show < Marshall Mathers LP. The album is essentially on-par with The Eminem Show, so if you enjoyed that album (which I certainly did) than you are in for a pleasant surprise. I for one will be copping Relapse the day it is released. I recommend you all do the same. |

I stand corrected. Had a chance to hear the CD as well and the production is absolute top notch, and the topics he raps about alone is enough to keep it fresh and interesting. Some topics I could do without, he seems to mainly flip between obscene violence and drug related songs, I much prefer the drug ones but the violent songs have HUGE HUGE HUGE shock value. I will definitly buy it once it comes out.
