Emilio Rojas - On My Own
Artist: Emilio Rojas
Featuring: Nikkiya
Producer: WillPower
Album: Breaking Point
Label: Unsigned
As anyone with an Internet connection and even a passing interest in dope hip-hop knows, lately Emilio Rojas has been putting out new material like Tyler Perry puts out Medea sequels. Did that make sense? Either way, instead of tearing apart my questionable analogy choices let’s focus on the new music, namely Emilio’s new mixtape standout On My Own. Like much of his recent work, On’s production takes a darker turn as beatsmith WillPower juxtaposes a lighter piano line with crunching bass and snapping percussion (this sound like old school Outkast to anyone else?). In between some typically untypical vocals from SPEAKHER singer Nikkya, Emilio takes on the common man’s struggle. Or to be more specific, the common man’s struggle to overcome the common man’s haters: “My life is a movie, you got no part in it / I’m in parties that only stars enter.” If you’re liking On My Own then you’re going to love Rojas’ upcoming mixtape, Breaking Point, presented by BBC Ice Cream, hosted by DJ Green Lantern and set to drop “soon,” which is code for “we don’t know, we’ll tell you when we figure it out.”

I love the artistic combination on display here. I love it when my favorite unsigned artists get together to do a record. More quality stuff like this and that last statement won't be the case for very long...

Man this track is nice. Not a big fan of the hook but the flow is on point. Voice tone at some points remind me of a early (room for improvement) Drake. Overall definitely a dope track.

I liked the direction that they took with the hook. Definitely isn't something you hear regularly, but nice nonetheless. Emilio always kills it, so no shock there. Everything he puts out is always good.

@ RyanSx - good point. Rojas really is consistently good, I just went through 30 odd tracks of his and there isn't even 1 average joint, all straight fire.

Everything the kid does is special and this is no exception. The most consistent emcee out right now and I think he is on track to blow up.

Best upcoming rapper, I don't even consider him upcoming that much at all because after following him for some time now, he's on top of his game, this track just shows once again how diverse Emilio is.
