Emilio Rojas - Ex Girl
Artist: Emilio Rojas
Featuring: Mickey Factz
Producer: The Black Keys
Album: Life WIthout Shame
Label: Unsigned
Ah, ex-girlfriends. They’re like girlfriends, but even crazier and you don’t have to buy them things. (I’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight for that one.) Luckily I’ll be able to commiserate with NYC rhymespitter and Booth Freestyle alum Emilio Rojas, who’s had his fair share of lady trouble if new record Ex Girl is to be believed. With a captivating beat constructed from The Black Keys’ song Next Girl, Rojas continues the microphone destruction streak we last heard on Hold You Down (Remix) and fills Ex with rewind-worthy metaphorical punchlines: “Rollin with folks who only know you as a failure / when I met you, you showed your best parts, you’re like a trailer.” On the back end Paradise resident Mickey Factz echoes Rojas’ sentiments, resulting in a record that’s sure to become an anthem for those dealing with clingy, bitter exes. Not that I’d know or anything. Anyway, Rojas is currently considering placing Ex Girl on his upcoming, DJ Green Lantern hosted, intriguingly titled mixtape Life Without Shame. We’ll just have to wait until October to find out for sure if Ex made the final cut.

Rojas is one of my favorite emcees in the game today. He is clever, witty, complex, engaging, interesting, charismatic, oh... and really good at rapping, too. He might work real real hard, but his work comes across as real easy (such is also the case for feature emcee, Mickey Factz).
Love the creativity (notice the sample used as a loop for this beat), too. |

Watching Emilio grow has certainly been a treat.
Smooth beat, gotta love it. I liked Red Sky a tad more, but at this point any decent contribution from either two emcees is always welcomed. |

That beat is absolutely dope (The Black Keys are incredible) and Rojas' verses continue to be some of the best out there. There aren't many who can touch him right now. I'm not as in love with Mickey's guest verse, but it's still tight as hell. If you're sleeping on Emilio at this point you must be in a coma.

Gotyta love the instrumental on this one. And the hook aint bad either. Despite all this, i feel ex-girlfriend tracks are tired.
