The Embassy Music Board - Toast (To the DJ)
Producer: Hit Boy
Album: The 400 Lounge
Label: Embassy Music Board
Even here in the DJ Booth, there are times when we get so caught up in the more visible world of rappers and singers that we forget to show appreciation to those standing behind the wheels of steel. Here to help rectify that oversight are ATL’s Embassy Music Board, who raise a Toast (To the DJ) on their latest mixtape leak. Flowing over Hit Boy‘s swanky, synth-driven instrumental, freestyle series alumni Big A, Baby D.O.E., K.O. and Manolo give it up for the fine men and ladies who spin their tunes, and waxing poetic about the delicate art of moving a crowd: “Don’t you love it when you hear that song, make you really wanna dance more make you move even if you say you’re hardcore, make the ladies wanna really hit the dancefloor.” A smooth tribute that should warm DJs’ hearts and leave the rest nodding their heads in appreciation, Toast can be found on EMB’s Don Cannon-hosted The 400 Lounge mixtape, which has yet to receive a solid release date – keep it locked for further details!

Anytime an artist wants to "Toast to the DJ"... fine by me. Thanks, EMB. As for the song itself, though the title and hook would insinuate a celebratory mood, Hit Boy's production and the downtrodden delivery of the record make for a somber listen. Maybe that was the aim? Not sure, really. If you don't nitpick the small stuff, though, I'm sure you'll find it worthy of 3 stars.

Im not sure about this... I like the subject of the song, but im not feeling the way they did it. The production really simple and boring from Hit Boy, but it fits perfectly with the boring verses and the lame chorus.... o well. I dont see how this deserves 3 stars... he most i can give it is 2.

I'm agreeing with the general consensus here. You'd think a track for the DJs would be, well, for the DJs. I don't see this getting played anywhere outside of (maybe) my headphones. Still, it was an enjoyable listen.

Has a real 90's vibe to the whole track, even the vocals feel like Ill and Al scrtach from back in the day mixed with some Mad Lion or born jamericans... I can dig some feel good music, its a cool joint.

I have to say that it is odd that a song paying ode to "djs who can dj for real" doesn't contain any actual dj work. Like a lot of folks here, I wanted to love this, but it just didn't connect.
