With the release of his ELmatic mixtape just a week away, Motown mainstay eLZHi is back to put his own spin on another cut off Nas’ seminal debut full-length. This reimagining of Halftime finds the Slum Village alumnus dropping dense lyrical fire over beatsmith Will Sessions’ live rendition of the Illmatic inclusion’s original, Large Professor-produced instrumental. Digging it? Then be sure to cop the free album next Tuesday, May 10, when it hits the artist’s official site.

I thought he might have been setting himself up for failure tackling this song but he manages to deliver as always...

Wow. Im impressed hearing this from a slum village member knowing what they rapped about in the past. He sort of sound like Nas and the beat is stupid even though its just a loop. Classic song in my opinion.

Love the live instrumentals, and eLZhi is always dope lyrically so that just adds to it. Its a much better song when you think of it as an individual song and not compare it to the original Halftime, but no matter how you think of it its dope as hell, so is the rest of the tape.
