The Electric - Running
Producer: DJ Vadim
Album: Beautiful 12"
Label: OGS
Pugs Atomz really gets around – both in the geographical and collaborative sense. Having brought us high-quality tunes on the solo tip, as a duo with beatsmith Rashid Hadee, and as one-third of The Gent$, the Windy City native’s now joined forces with New York/Berlin dual representative DJ Vadim and UK soul songstress Sabira Jade to form globetrotting trio The Electric, whose latest B-side is making its world premiere tonight in the Booth. More of a leisurely jog than an all-out sprint, Running finds Vadim blending syncopated percussion and descending organ chords as Atomz drops low-concept but high-caliber verses packed with trash talk and witty braggadocio: “I got the job, no need to interview, why you full of hot air like an inner tube?” Complete with Jade’s winning hook vocals, as well as Vadim’s expert sample deployments (I’m the Man by Gang Starr, The Temptations’ Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) and… I’ll let y’all I.D. the rest), this border-crossing banger should have listeners in the Booth and beyond Running to grab a copy of The Electric’s Beautiful 12” when it is available for purchase on Dec. 5.

Pugs hit us up last week, before the holiday, and said he had something he knew we'd want to hear... Pugs was correct. This first feature for The Electric is both engaging (I am sure its sick performed live) and repeat-worthy. I am more than interested in hearing what the rest of their collaborative material will sound like in the future.

Catchy track. The beat really helps set the tone of the song. Some quality verses, and good vocals from Jade.

Whenever I hear music like this on hip hop sites, I feel less horrified about he world of music going to hell in a hand basket. This is fun without being dumb. Good stuff. Home girl was singing off key a little bit but at least she didn't have to autotune herself into being a singer. (Oops.) I like this record. 5 stars!

What do you do when a previous commenter said what you were going to say, only better? Quote them:

This is a dope track, no doubt. But you cant honestly give it 5 stars. There just isnt enough in it for that. When you rate a song with 5 stars, there has to be everything perfect in it. You have to fully over look every aspect of the song. And rate it honestly and carefully.
The production was very nice from DJ Vadim. And The Electric did very nice in this. Not "classic" type of work tho. The highest i can honestly rate this, is 4. Banger for me. |

I do appreciate when you stumble across originality. Wow, what a pleasure it is to be a hip-hop fan still.. we are not gonna DIE with the likes of artists like them building product.
